Duke3D on Xbox LIVE Arcade!
Bring it! I need it. Doom gave me a taste of how awesome it is to play these classics again, and it won't be right without Duke. Make it happen, 3D Realms!

Here's a petition, btw. Not of my creation, but, sign up of you're interested:

Petitions do nothing. Waste of time.

It's already been discussed here. Whether it happens or not I can't say. It's ultimately up to Microsoft as to whether they want it or not.

Right on man, I was about to post the petition here but was waiting for my account to get activated.

It's not something we're being pushy about, we just want to get Microsoft's attention and show them that Duke Nukem 3D has a large fanbase that would love for it to come on the XBLA. No reason to shoot us down.

Doom for XBLA, why not Duke?
Am I the only one that would love to see them port Duke Nukem 3d (or even manhatten project) to xbox live arcade? I'd much rather play some duke match than doom death match.

they can't do manhattan project, the game is being held hostage by lawyers (look up manhattan project threads, no one can do anything with it right now).

And why on earth would you want to put DN3D on a console to make it work with awful controllers?????? DN3D is for the PC. I really don't see 3D Realms porting it that way.

Please release Duke Nukem 3D on Xbox Live Arcade
Hi,

It would be great if you guys released a version of Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox Live Arcade. Since Doom recentley released for Xbox 360 I'm sure Duke would be possible. Playing on Xbox Live against other people or on co-op would be so much fun! Hail to the king, baby!

People need to stop saying that bullshit about "keyboard and mouse is FAR superior to a controller". No it isn't. Just play with what you are comfortable with and stop acting like pompous ass.

I wasn't acting like a pompus ass. and do some research about controllers vs keyboard+mouse for FPS before you get on YOUR "high horse".

Research? He owns an Xbox 360 and has recently played Prey on it. I'm pretty sure he's qualified to say whether his experience was fun or not.

The implication I got from your original quote was that it simply wouldn't be worth porting Duke3D to the 360, because of its control scheme.

I guess I'm just as biased against the 360 as Boo Boo Juice is against PCs. We all have our peferences, and its no reason to call someone an ass of any sorts. Plus there have been several threads on this forum about controller vs keyboard/mouse, and several articles posted about groups that actually HAVE pitted the two against each other. Wanna guess which ones came out on top? I'm not being pompus, nor an ass, if you take it as such, pm me instead of trolling for arguments please.

A controller is a much less precise method of control, but that doesn't mean it's far inferior in terms of the gameplay experience, and many gamers are perfectly happy with the amount of control it provides.

For 360 gamers, I imagine being Duke3D over Live would be a pretty big deal.

Okay, I scrapped the petition idea to show the support for the game(since it's obvious petitions just put people in bad moods). I got ahold of Trixie from Microsoft and told her about how Duke Nukem 3D has a huge fanbase and that there already tons of requests to bring it to XBLA. She says "Thanks for the suggestion. I will pass it along to the Arcade team ". Cross your fingers.

doom with a controller is awesome to play, much better and faster than keyboard only

Ive never played doom with keyboard & mouse, only with keyboard
it just doesnt feel right to aim with a mouse in doom (or duke3d) because its not true 3d and you cant look up and down (you can but it looks ugly)

there is thread already asking for classic 3DR games on xbla, but they replied they are too lazy to port a game and they dont like consoles at all if I remember correctly

here is the thread: http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17097

duke3d on xbla would rock

Actually, yes it is. Mouse/keyboard is the best way to play these games. BUt it isn't the only way, just the best way. Seriously though - can we leave out the controller discussions? That's really not germaine to the subject here.

You'd be surprised what they've turned down. DOn't just assume MS will want it just because you like it, and it's popular. Hate to sound defeatiest, but it's not as easy as "send it to Micorosoft and get it on there". It's a rather complicated procedure, and MS is fairly picky about what goes on there.

That's polite talk for "Please get off my phone". Sorry to sound so defeatist, but individual users won't do much of anything. Now if you could get something on the order of a million people to do the same thing, that might be different, but talking to one person like that isn't going to do anything.

Besides, if you can think of it, they already have - I'd bet on it. Plus as I said above, we've already talked about it ourselves. I talked about this yesterday with George, he's all up for the idea, but we don't have the time to do the port ourselves, plus there's the issue of whetther Microsoft would really want it. Don't just assume they would, there's a big submissions procedure to go through. Plus their release schedule is booked solid for quite awhile now, even if we delivered it to them today, I would imagine it wouldnt' come out for awhile anyway.

I think Duke3D on Live would make pretty good pre-DNF release hype because it would re-introduce the character to a new generation of gamers who didn't experience Duke as we did. Let's hope Microsoft sees it as a profitable venture and asks 3DR to have it ported. However, after reading some comments at TeamXBOX and other XBOX sites regarding Doom on Live it's depressing to see attitudes towards the game as being too ugly and old. You don't diss Doom, man! It's our roots! Meddlin' kids.

Actually, I'm not against PC in any way at all. I started gaming on PC. If you enjoy it, then more power to you. I just haven't had the best experiences with them, so I play console now. All I am trying to point out is that whatever you are used to is the best controller. There is no controller that is the definitive #1 controller. I've seen people who like the controller and just can't play on a mouse and keyboard and vice versa.

Saying one thing is better than the other just because you prefer it that way is being silly.

I agree.. Almost.

I've been a PC gamer always. The Xbox 360 is the first console I've bought since the super NES. So to say the least, I wasn't thrilled about using a controller. In fact, I bought the system for sports stuff, and arcade games. I was surprised that after playing through Condemned and COD2 (multiplayer) I actually started perferring the controller. That's something I personally never thought I'd do as whenever I've used my friends controllers for the older systems, or even the 360 (I got mine later than everyone else), I just couldn't get into it. I sucked bad at games like Halo 2 MP, and now I'm just as good with a controller as I am Keyboard and mouse.

In fact, I perfer a controller now for the most part. Sometimes it isn't done right, sometimes it is. But so far I've liked it. (Only exception is FEAR 360 demo feels horrible... The bottons are fine, the aiming sucks in my opinion).

A lot of it also has to do with comfort. I got a nice PC rig, nice monitor, etc. But I dont like sitting at my desk all the time to game. I love just sitting on the couch, or vegging out in my recliner chair playing on my HD-TV. Everyone finds something else comfortible. These things are all subjective.

To be honest, us PC gamers for the most part are old and fickle. Not really willing to try and work on change. We are set in our ways for the most part, same as many Console people I know. (They can not get used to the keyboard and mouse to save thier lives).

I'm so satisfied with the 360 experiance, Im not going to upgrade my PC this year. I normally do it once a year, but since the game pool has been pretty dry for PC, I'm waiting until crysis and a need for DX10 to build. Even then Im going to get a controller.

I almost didnt give it a shot, but I really wanted to play through condemned. By the end of one game, I am hooked. So for now, bring on Bioshock, GOW, Mass Effect, Army of two, The Darkness, Team Fortress 2, Assassins Creed, Stranglehold, COD3, BIA:Hells Highway, Crackdown, Lost Planet, etc. To name a few. It's a good time to be a console gamer, and a person who likes a controller.

Actually thats a pretty good idea. Unfortunately I guess unless Microsoft sees it as something they'd like I doubt its going to happen. DOOM has the popularity of a pop singer, whereas Duke3D is forgotten to all but us diehard fans. I mean compare the efforts of the community (ports, online browsers, addons, websites, forums) of DOOM to Duke3D and you'll see what I mean.

Although if Duke3D were only say $10 alongside Doom on the XBLA many people would give it a try. Thats the beauty thing about this arcade idea, its cheap and simple so impulse purchases could mean a decent profit.

Re: Duke 3D for Xbox Live Arcade!
I'd dig seeing Duke3D on live. I would 100% purchase it.

I'd be even more interested in seeing Duke Nukem Manhattan Project on Live though. It was an awesome 3D side-scroller that for some reason was released on the PC. The Xbox360 is a perfect opportunity for Duke Manhattan Project to be released on a console the way it was always meant to be.

I just played it the other day on my HTPC that's hooked up to my big screen (using a PC XBOX360 controller no less). It was freekin awesome. The only downside was not being able to force it to go widescreen. The game even holds up and is graphically still not very dated looking.

If microsoft had half a brain they'd buy the Duke Franchise, put a ton of devs on it and make it an XBOX360 exclusive, along with putting the old Duke Favs in the live arcade.

Duke Nukem has proven to be a games franchise that has a lot of staying power. There are still many fans on these boards after many years of nothing new released. We still all anxiously await duke forever despite the multiple signals telling us that it is vaporware that will never see the light of day.

Duke has to be one of the single most powerful, fun and recognizable games characters in existence who at the same time has been under-marketed, mis-used, and otherwise completely ignored (perhaps hoarded?) and mis-managed by the people who own the proptery.

Gamers want duke. The money is there for the making. Movie deals, great games, merchandising. Yet somehow Gamers never get the Duke the are dying to pay for. Where is the breakdown happening here?

I'll say it again. If M$ has any smarts. They'd buy all rights to DUKE and make something of it.
