Damn, I didn't know Scott Miller was no-crosshair hardcore.

I am looking forward to the Friday release. Is it going to be another exclusive?

As long as they were somewhat fitting with the current situation, I'm perfectly happy to play along.

As for the blinking guns, I fought against this idea, but was over-ruled. I was trying to stay away from ALL arcade-isms in this game (including an aiming cursor), but not all of my suggestions are accepted. With the no-cursor idea, I wanted Prey to be the first game in which aiming was truly a learned skill, and I often play the game with the cursor off, and it's a lot more fun to me.
I myself do like a good mix of puzzles in FPS games as well. It makes the game more interesting and gives it more content and "brains" rather than just "shoot everything and go through the level". In fact, I'd like a boss or 2 that requires a puzzle of sorts to defeat them. Take the Hunter demons in the Doom 3 Expansion, all three bosses had a bit of a puzzle to defeat them.

And if you don't mind me asking, what are you referring to with "Blinking Guns"?

Oh, and keep in mind there is one person that can always override 'ol Scott Miller: God.

I disagree, They are alien bio guns so blinking is very acceptable with that IMO. Also, the lack of a crosshair will be annoying for a lot of people I think. But it will allways be good if you can turn it of.

A steady, low, real-looking, bio-luminescence would have worked better, contextually, than the blinking. I agree with Scott, it is too arcadey. I was surprised to see it in single-player.

No crosshairs would have been an interesting design decision. No doubt, it would have added to the personality of the game. Removing that crutch makes me nervous but if the game had given you time to learn with it, it would have given it another unique hook.

I don't recommend no-crosshairs for every game though, only the ones that want to be real or true to context. Duke's still got his shades after all.

In that footage, the dropped weapons by the enemies were highlighted with a red blink (glowing weapons) so you'd notice them better...

Question Question:
Something else I noticed - when tommy was using the scope, little mousewheel icons appeared up in the corner of the screen to indicate controls for the zoom function. Is Prey going to be another game that pops up hints to key bindings the first time a weapon or function is used, but shows only the default key, even if you've remapped it? If hints are to be used, a game should be smart enough to show the current key bindings. A few do, but most don't bother.

Yes, any key hints that pop up show you the CURRENT binding, not the default binding (unless of course the current is the default).

As for features, I suggest those that like a particular feature meet up with the people who don't like them. Then have an arm wrestling match. The side that wins get's to pick whether or not that feature is kept or deleted.

That sounds like a reasonable solution for this matter...

Or you just add a ~500 page options menu where everything could be adjusted.

So, she doesn't react does she..? Most allies in games, just get shot right through them... That's kinda funny... I've tried some times, to take this as an advantage, and have my NPC buddies make a human (or whoever they are) shield, so they block all attacks against me, while i shoot through them, and hit the enemy...

In other words, no, the planet-in-a-box has no contextual explanation. Oh well. Does the player have to enter the box to make forward progress in the game?

Actually, I didn't say that that small planetoid doesn't have an explanation. After you've played the game, things will make more sense.

I believe that portal box that led to the miniature sphere was the only exit from the room.

Well, the game has linear paths to proceed in, like so many other games...

People might as well wonder why almost every door is locked, except for those that makes you proceed...

And why the player never ends in a dead end, when doing a wrong move...

And to be honest, who the hell would want that..?!
I would hate to use 30 minutes of gameplay, just to realize that something i did half an hour ago, is reason for why i can't proceed...

I think that's a bit "too realistic"

Possibly, but when Tommy enter's the first protal box and ends up in that room Talon is there. Sitting on a control panel, trying to get your attention.

Maybe you can just use the switch and either open a door or portal somewhere else, or use the box. Who knows.

You've remained carefully noncommittal, though. Either way, you've said that some game elements will make sense, and some are included because they're fun. I'll just reiterate that I appreciate the effort to make sense of things (for the sake of immersion), especially in a serious-minded game. I could think of several explanations off the top of my head to justify scale-manipulation via portals. I just couldn't think of a specific explanation for the planet-in-a-box set-up.

Thank you. That was the desired reaction. Ever heard of the word disinformation?

The point here is that you shouldn't read into everything that hard. Not everything has some hidden meaning. You're forming expectations based on things you're reading into what we say - that can be dangerous.

Should could get blown away into a pile of goo, or nothing could happen. Or I could be completely lying. Don't look so hard for answers. All will be revealed soon.

So here's my thought: create a Payne-like trailer for Prey, dark, moody, not action oriented, slow cuts and about maybe 1m:30s to 2m:00s in length.

Nice idea, only I think that in the occasions where the NPC is tied up (like in the sequence with Jenny) it is not really possible.

I just realized something. This video is taken from the 360 version. I noticed by how the person playing is moving the gun.
And how the characters "jump" into the portal, where as the PC version is seemless.
Is it just me? Am I wrong?

And what during "follow the NPC" sequences? You won't be able to avoid pointing at them. Swearing galore
Even in static conversations it's still a bad idea, since you automatically center the talking NPC on your screen. At least my brain does that automatically

I never center a NPC if I need them and can kill them accidently.

Like in Doom 3 when you need that guy to light your way, I always stayed a few steps behind him. On one side or the other, and whenever he walked across my line of sight I either lowered my weapons to the ground and raised it above his head.

For some reason I've always done that.

But when talking to a NPC I usualy keep them off to on side of the crosshair, I never center it on them. I have a habit of tapping the mouse button sometimes.

Ask Orochi about Serious Sam 2 co-op. We would kill everything and it would get really silent. And then... coming from me is the sound of me winding up my minigun and letting it stop spinning. I would od that constantly.
