This duke model is looking really good, puts my 3d modelling skills to shame the best i could manage was a rubber duck i made in year 8 comp graphics.

cant wait to see the finished product

Didn't have time to do much today cuz i had to go out with some business. I welded the cylinder type thingies to the bent box and attached everything to the torso.

I layed the uvs down but i look at the shoulder now and something just doesn't seem right but i can't really tell what so i'm fooling around hoping i do something with it.

I'm doing this half of model cuz the current shoulder looks quite terrible as it is right now, speaking of topology, so i wanna get an at least decent model with decent topology and stick the shoulder with good topology to the torso.
And i'm using my current model for reference.

Sounds good. You really want to have good topology so that when you build a skeleton and do the skinning you won't have problems when moving his arms around.

Can you believe this? I spen all day yesterday and half of today on the shoulder and by the end i did something completly different . Anyway i didn't threw away the doby i did but i think i won't be using it by the end.

I attached the good shoulder to the body with the good head. Now i have to do the unwrapping and rig it so it looks nice.

Everything is looking great except for 1 thing. I don't want to sound like a modeling nerd but I recommend that you have Duke in some sort of a T-shape pose before you go into rigging. We were taught in school that if you leave his arms down by his side that it can cause problems during the rigging process. I have attached an image I found on Google to help clarify. I just thought I would pass this on to you so you don't have have to go through many frustrations.

I know what you mean, it's way easyer to rig it with it's arms spread but the "best" part about everything is that the skeleton which i have to rig it to doesn't have it's arms spread and it's also move/rotate/scale constrained



It would be a real pain to get the arms of the skeleton spread and i'm quite sure it's not even worth the effort; though i do get some funny areas mostly at the armpit



but my best bet is to just make sure they look good with his arm spread.

Ohhhhh ok! I didn't know you were using a pre-made skeleton lol. That will save you some time. Hope everything works out nicely.

Yeah, it's no big deal, my problem in the first place was the topology the arm actually looked pretty decent.

Also i finnished the shoulder and got to the arm, it looks a bit like an old woman's arm right now, gotta work a bit more on it.

I basically moved verts here 'n' there today though i'm still not finnished, it has that old woman arms look on it and i haven't figured quite yet what to do about it.

A few people complained about the lenght of the torso so i went and thinned it a bit, i also widen it and i guess now it looks more human.

Err, ok, so basically the topology on the previous torso was really bad (too many polys in simple areas, extruded tank top was bad, the suspenders were bad etc) so i went and did a new torso from scratch and separated the suspenders from the old torso. Now i wanna get a simple torso (no extrusions on it) looking good and get the suspenders as a separate element of the torso, then start sculpting stuff .

By the time you get done, your posts will leave a good reference or a guide on how to make a duke nukem model :d keep going as I really wanna see something that's making progress around here and not taking FOREVER lol.

You should raise his boobs a bit, they look abnormaly large, and get rid of theose bumps on his arms, otherwise it looks nice.
Also if you're looking for more professional advice try on polycount, there're a lot of people who really know much about this stuff and can help you along though you have to be prepared to take everything they give you otherwise they'll shred you, i should know best .
