yes, the cloaked ninja was insanely powerful, since he uses some weirdass "lots of fireballs" attack that seems to get you in most cases even if you try to run around, and it took off tons of hp and could easily push you off the cliff or something, that dude packs a great kick. green dudes aka the guardians were also kinda strong, so no problemo here...

as far as difficulty goes - i *did* beat shadow warrior on no pain no gain in the old dos/win98 times. in some cases i was so low on ammo that i had to use gas bombs, shadow bombs (invisibility + fist powah!) even those useless caltrops (for single play anyway), but it's manageable. i find it kinda easier than duke3d's max difficulty because enemies don't respawn.

A quick note regarding those having problems with the Monitor in E1M1, Seppuku Station: Using 8-bit color mode will fix it (And will also turn on Voxels.)

Five bucks to any of you who remember me. Swashbuckler don't count.

The Guardian Head weapon (weapon 9) can actually shoot that "lots of fireballs" attack (3rd fire mode), and yes, it's VERY powerful (but uses tons of ammo). I don't recall the actual Guardians using it though.

The cloaked guys use that same attack. Yes, they're very hard; your best bet is to stay out of sight, and shoot something around the corner or pop out to shoot something explosive or use the riot gun then hide again.

/me makes a new account and "remembers" Dark Pulse.

shadow ninja's attack is similar but it's a bit different. yes he fires the same "3-sorta-explosions-flame-line" but also out of that line small green fireballs fly out sideways:

<--- | | --->
<--- | | --->
<--- | | --->
<--- | | --->

| | being the fire line

and < and > being fireballs.

that makes this attack cover a pretty big area....

or use shadow bombs! and punch em good.

The build games are the hardest games around. I think that D3d is the easiest, Shadow Warrior is second hardest, and Blood on Extra Crispy is by far the most difficult.

I find myself agreeing with this statement. I think a lot of it is memorization, though -- I find Duke3D quite easy because I literally know where every enemy in the game is. SW on the other hand (which I never got a chance to play through fully but will soon) I find quite a bit more difficult.

Hehe well Extra Crispy was intended to be a co-op skill level..

I've played Blood to the point where i've got pretty damn good at it, but I find myself being annihilated in SW still :\

I will beat it a soon as jfsw is stable enough and suports saveing. I even have trouble on the first map sometimes. But at the moment I blame that on the "iffy" mouse aim .

I mostly played sw in multiplayer agains my brother and friend or two over modem. I realy need to dig out that map I made that we used to play on. It was not a great mp map in the normal way (way of balanced, way to big, way to much guns etc) but we had a blast sneaking around. Hearing the arming nuklear warhead ... and not knowing were your oponent were was frustating(in a good way). the fact that the nuke was on a small island in the middle of the map making you an easy target trying to get it was fun to. Ohh yea nad it had working surfing boards with small jet engines.

o.k. i got my copy of shadow warrior for 99 cents off ebay.

/you can beat me with a wet noodle now, i had only previously played the demo a bit.

anyways, the port seems to work well.

no mouse aim, at least i can't seem to figure out how to get it running.

also, when i shoot enemies and they die, they kinda flash and show a big square of graphics..it's a weird glitch but nothing too annoying.

i know about no cd sound.

the actual sound effects are crisp and clear.

i'm running the game at 1024x768 and it's nice and smooth.

key configuration i have to look into better. i play with the right side keyboard arrow buttons, with right ctrl usually binded as jump, shift as prone and f for action.

i don't think ctrl keys are bindable.

can't wait to play more and thanks again 3dr and jonf!

The default is U, although the key repeat is a bit sensitive so keep pressing it until you trick it into working

If you have never played blood you should look into that Kaiser. Off of ebay it is pretty expensive though. It is better than SW IMHO. Although I love Lo Wang.

I can't remember if Shadow Warrior was that hard. I do remember beating it though; except I used a cheat once. In one of the first level I could never find a key so I used noclipping to get past the door.

Oh, and I miss jFRedneck...

Very bad, nobody cares 'bout that...

BTW, ontopic:

My girlfriend's notebook: SW.EXE starts, but no sign of SW starting. It seems to end just before it really starts.

Logfile doesn't help much:

approx.:
Init OpenGL bla..
Init DirectInput bla..

Deinit DirectInput...

Seems QUITting is triggered before the first (title) screen comes up.

Contact Vivendi Universal about a source code release as they own the rights to the RR series.

As for WinBlood, hang on

Yeah, so did I. Until someone from here told me otherwise ( Kristian Joensen
)

I think it's the same deal with Blood, Interplay who published RR sold the rights to Vivendi. Grey Matter/Xatrix made the game, so like Monolith they still display it on their website.

Vivendi bought the rights to the RR series for.....300,000 dollars

That sounds about right. RR was a hard game to sell IMO. Although I still like the game. It is a good game that is over shadowed by the three bigger build games, SW, D3D, and Blood.

I got my copy of Blood off GameTZ. They mainly trade games but some people sell as well. There's also an abandonware site that has Blood with Plasma Pak and Cryptic Passage for a 30MB download. The game is not the same without the CD music though.

They will simply send you an email saying this game is no longer being sold. Just check eBay and Amazon a lot.

Also check half.com they have some copies of Blood there.

I was playing Shadow Warrior earlier and was fighting Zilla, I noticed the sound of my dual submachineguns was cutting in and out. Anyone else had this happen?
