Dude, the 486 was the shizat back in the day. I think my first computer was a 386 actually. I remember getting Duke 3D and loading it up on our computer. Those were the days.

I imagine that if the game doesn't have any major graphical overhall, it should load really fast and play really well. That is if the engine was optimized right, which I have no doubt it was.

Comparatively, if you played EDuke32 or any other windows/mac/linux port with a high res pack or mods that use new textures (lots of pngs etc) it takes a while to load up even on a modern computer system with comparable specs to the 360.

re: load times...It's instantaneous on modern pc's. In fact we had to introduce some delays for things like level load screens because of Microsoft requirements stating that a screen has to be displayed for at least X time. ie: When you load a level you see "Loading Hollywood Holocaust" for a couple of seconds before the level loads.

We're still playing with the ranked playlist and will probably tweak it after launch. What levels do you all want to see? I polled people here and on the Shack months back and we pulled the most popular Dukematch levels over. The list were things like:

Hollywood, Red Light, Stadium, Freeway, Spin Cycle, Duke Burger, LA Rumble, etc...

You can play any map in Player Match, but we wanted all the Ranked maps to truly be good for Dukematch, since you don't get to pick which one you play on.

How much ram did you have in yours? After I upgraded my ram Duke3D loaded much faster on that PC.

George i really hope you have for multiplayer the level with the train. i loved running down that thing battling other guys and then having to run away because a train was coming :d.

added variety to the battle and you had to look closely,

That list is excellent. Hotel Hell or w/e is also a great one. And yea as mentioned, the Subway/train station was also a great level. I loved riding the train haha

I guess it got overlooked, but what's it looking like on how many players are going to be supported for online play?

We're there any noticeable things you had to cut out of the game to port it like secret places, voice clips, etc.

There were one level that I recall where if you played Co-op, you could get stuck, and we had to put a map bypass in there. There's one in Episode 4 whose name I forget where you go up a spiral stairwell at the start, and the stairwell and the room you go into totally collapses. In Co-op, you'd get killed, go back to the start, and you couldn't get up the stairwell, cutting you off. I think we had to add a teleport into co-op to get past the collapsed area for that map. But that was an addition, not a subtraction - generally we tried not to touch the old content unless there was some really "broken" reason like this. Movie Set also had a collapsed area where you could get stuck, but you can get out of that level another way, so you're not really stuck in that one.

I don't believe we cut any content out of the game - George, am I remembering this right?

Yeah, but what I'm tryin' to ask is if the game takes up the whole screen, or are there black bars on the side of the screen like DOOM?

That was my problem with the Doom port. It's 16:9 even when I play on my PC monitor at 1280x1024. But the Doom port isn't even 16:9, the menu is and the game itself has pillar boxing. So at 1280x1024 I get like a 1024x768 image with a huge black border around it.

I remember when I was 8 and playing that level... ugh my reflexes and gaming skill were low that I would die often in that area. Never liked the level cause of that.

i hope it doesnt have the black bars on the sides on 16:9. That was so annoying in doom and also mortal kombat! i have the option to fit my screen on my tv but then it looks washed out

was anything added hinting at duke nukem forever? will releasing duke 3d on XBL mean some new info will arise from duke forever in the press in sept?

Q: Are the sprites or textures updated / cleaned up?

Same here, main reason I decided to get involved with the community here was the constant replies by George and Joe. I can't go on any other company board (off the top of my head) and get support and direct answers like that.
