ROTT review
Just found a ROTT review on Youtube while browsing for something to watch and it's a pretty nice review. This guy really loves the game

That was an enjoyable review to watch, and you can tell he really is fond of it. I remember having a lot of fun with it when I was young, and it still looks like a blast to play.

I like his enthusiasm and that Scottish accent is always a hoot to listen to.

The game itself I've never gotten into though; world design, music, sound effects, gameplay, pretty much everything about it puts me off.
Never really cared for Blood either.

ROTT has an odd charm to it. Maybe it's the fact that it never takes itself seriously and just tries to pile on the gibs and over the top weapons. One thing I've always hated about ROTT is when I need one friggen keycard and I keep missing it. I'll spend an hour looking for it swearing up and down that I've looked everywhere. O_o

Then I'll turn around and notice I've missed a spot.

Special effects galore: Fog, lightning with properly delayed thunder, parallaxing skies, real lights that illuminate walls (you can shoot the lights and the room gets darker), ricocheting bullets, wind sounds, and more.

Well... if you hunt down a copy on eBay or something that's your only way. Retail wise 3DR sells it floppy disk, your best bet is to do the download buy.

Buy it, and burn it to CD. Done.

Look, we don't sell a lot of games on CD anymore. Saying you're not going to buy it because it's not delivered on a CD is kind of silly. And somewhat insulting to us. It's like saying we're worthy of a purchase merely because of some printed label on the CD, and not because of the game which is the whole point here.

It's the SAME EXACT GAME. If anything, the version on our store is better than what's on a CD, since I've merged in files from the Site License version and from the Extreme ROTT addon pack. Neither of which were ever available on the ROTT CD before

No. Only way we sell ROTT is registered download. Better check before making statements.

no need to get upset.
i just prefer hard copies as my computer tends to cut out during downloads all the time. i think i read somewhere on your site that you can only download it once, so i wouldnt want to screw up.
not because its a bad game, its a problem with my isp.

also, its a bit of a problem for me taht paypal isnt accepted

Expecting people to still have floppy drives in 2008 isn't any less silly. I still have one personally but I'm sure I'm an exception. Floppy drives only come in handy every once in a blue moon these days..

im probably gunna install the shareware version on my drive at school to play in the library. i will be banned from the library for a few days but its well worth it

Fair point, but we offer the games we sell on floppy disk as a registered download as well, so it's not really that big a deal.

You'd be surprised how many floppy disk sales we still get. Not like the quantity will dethrone any current software, but it's more than just a couple.

I'd think most people interested in old games like those still have floppy drives.. there are lots of old games only available on floppies.

Oh its worth it. 2 weeks of school computer usage revoked for starting a DN3D Lan game in school. Best classes ever. they only found because i had a high usage of hard drive space.

I think the sharware of ROTT comes on the DN3D Atomic disk does it not.

Hehe, I used a gig of HDD space.
However my teacher didn't mind as long as I got my work done. Meanwhile the other people wondered how I got past the HDD protection.

Man, it was fun playing ROTT VS a few people. Unfortunately, not many people have tried it. The review skipped multiplayer entirely.

oh man, that brings back memories.
me and some friends were doing lan duke 3d sw 2 years ago. we had just built a computer in class, and got away with it using the excuse "we are testing the computer's new network card" my teacher just said "ok" and walked away lmao. and at my school, they dont care whats on your drive, you only get 75 mb of it. although if you have ultrasurf to get by the school's webfilter, they just delete it.

EDIT: oh! so it does! no need to waste 3dr's bandwith then
Uploading ROTT to my school drive now
im totally abusing the school's system for retreving school work :P

I got a real easy way to get this to work with dos Box.
First download dos box 63:

Then install it also download D-fend front end.
Then put d-fend on your desktop or Documents folder ( in Windows XP not got Vista )

run D-fend to get the games, put all your installed games in a game folder and use the profile add with wizard to set up your games.

Then go into the dos box 63 config file to set output to ddraw to get better graphics.
