Well, it is a game published by Eidos and after all, Eidos hates people who hate games. Remember Kane and Lynch? Jeff Gerstmann got fired from Gamespot (who GS and Eidos deny) cause he said the game sucked! Talk about evil!

Save 50% on all titles or get entire Strategy First catalogue for one low price!

Seems to be some decent games here, like the FlatOut games, don't really know about the other games.
Check the publisher page for all the titles available: Strategy First

Also looks like they have the entire strategy first game catalog for sale for $75, some 28 games, including sacred gold, perimiter 2:new earth, 2 disciples II games... some of the stuff is likely to be pretty good.

Eidos support gave up on me. Got one final message telling to reinstall the game. That's it. Ticket closed.

Easter Steam sale looks awesome. Some games are 4.99$ and even 2.99$. Sacred Gold is dirt cheap. All Strategy First titles are rock bottom too.

Man, games for 2.99$. How has the landscape changed from 10 years ago.

I think it is more a statement about the economy and what some companies are doing to survive. Not that I think it is bad business sense, I think it is great, works well for all involved. Just in the past many were not willing to look at the electronic distribution channel, associating it with piracy.

Well it was a big flop that has a somewhat infamous history here on the forums, but I'm curious too to see how bad it really is.

I was thinking of trying Exodus From The Earth, it's $10 but the reviews seem to be a mixed bag.

I'd say yes it is. The graphics and gameplay are quite antiquicated, but the game has heart and atmosphere.

Flawed, but fun. I'd put it there with ambitious Quake 2 engine games like Kingpin or something.

how good is braid in terms of fun? What does it compare to? reason being the pc version includes a level editor (launch with -editor in the command string). They will be adding an ability to upload photoshop backgrounds.

Mostly the reason I didn't like it. And the fact that everything about teh game is pretty much ripped-off.

There is a demo on Steam.

Ripped off of what? Most of the stuff in there I haven't played anywhere else. Levels with time relative to the x axis for instance. I can think of a few examples of time manipulation in games that is similar (especially in using multiple copies of yourself) but Braid has a pretty wide variety and takes it much further than most.

How many other games do you double jump by jumping off a creature then rewinding time to when the creature was still alive then jumping on it again? :P (small example)

I guess Superczar means the platforming in the game being rip-off from other games, me personally I'd say it's an homage, but whatever I guess

Well you can certainly say it's basic plat forming is borrowed. It's typical of the genre. I wouldn't really think adhering to the expectations of the genre you game is part of is really ripping off though.

Games like Blinx and Cursor*10 certainly have some time concept similar to certain areas in Braid but those parts are only elements of a much larger game. A game can hardly have no overlap with previous concepts.

The time thing is cool though, but honestly, this game is an utter ripoff of so many games (and it's blatant). I don't understand why so many people and media praised this, there isn't much new or innovative here, and I am fairly sure the time thing has been done before, just maybe not quite like this one...
Considering the entire game is messing around with time (and the overly pretentious ambiguous plot I guess) what on earth do you mean by calling it a rip off? Other games haven't used time like this and the rest is just typical platforming conventions (which is a pretty important grounding to have if you're going to have alterations of the basic rules every level).

---------- Post added at 04:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:20 AM ----------

And obviously it plays with the Mario classical symbolism with the pursuit of the princess and "the princess is in another castle" stuff. It uses those references quite plainly and openly and the reason why will become more apparent as the game progresses. Direct reference isn't ripping off.

We did. We just didn't hop on the hype train like everyone else. The game simply didn't deserve the praise it got. It's barely an average platformer. I feel that I have played better, that's all I can say.

Hey, I'm much less of a self-centered, know-it-all jerk than I used to be. I used to be much worse with my opinions (no, they don't matter anymore).

Braid isn't for everyone. It's one of those love-it-or-hate-it thing. For me, what killed it was the sappy story and the thoroughly ugly character. Everything felt like it tried too much to be cute. The time-control gameplay was okay but even the demo defeated me so I certaintly won't pay for a game of which I'll experience less than 25%.

Floaty jumping was also horrid.
