I'm no longer hellbent on waiting, haven't been for a while. I'll just wait until it gets released, whenever that may be, and buy it when it's finally released.

I gave up on pre-ordering it as well, as the two places I did have long since went out of business

Emphatically no, for several reasons.

*3d Realms said they would begin releasing media a year before the game came out...well, it's been well over a year since that happened.

*Too many innovative games have come and gone.

*Don't like the next-gen look of the latest build, looks too serious for Duke...and what I really mean by this is it appears as if the game is going to try to cash in on some scares and thrills rather than just good old campy fun fun fun. I don't really want to play Duke Nukem Forever: A Survival Horror Game.

*Waiting for this for 10 yrs+ really sucks the anticipation out of a person.

Having said all that, I am anticipating a somewhat Linear shooter, as the recent more open-ended games, great as they have been, are starting to show the limits of free-roam style gameply. I'm also crossing my fingers that this could still be Duke 3d, but with fantastic graphics and better gameplay, but the same pop-culture references, humor, and fun factor that made the original so great. I think games are starting to get a little too serious but we'll see.

I really don't know what the hell happened with this, the 2001 trailer looked fantastic, I watched that thing over and over and over. If we get a trailer of that quality again, your damn sure I'll be anticipating it.

*EDIT*

/RANT MODE:

I MEAN COME ON FOR CHRISTS SAKES 3D REALMS I HAVEN'T WATCHED THAT E3 VIDEO IN AT LEAST TWO OR THREE YEARS AND I CAN STILL REMEMBER "THEY'RE EVERYWHERE, PEOPLE ARE TURING INTO MONSTERS!" "HEY PAL, WHAT ARE YOU GONNA, DO SAVE THE WORLD ALL BY YOURSELF?" AND "DUKE, THE EARTH DEFENSE TEAM HAS BEEN COMPROMISED, THEY HAVE THE PRESIDENT, I'M AFRAID YOU CAN'T TRUST ANYONE."

I don't know if those are the exact lines, but if I can still remember them after all these years, and remember how awesome that game looked back then...it looked like the best game ever, and still looks damn fine by todays standards, save for the aging graphics. Just what the hell is going on these days? I mean, come on guys, get it together! I know I'm being unfair, and we haven't seen much, but why release anything if its not going to be totally awesome? I mean seriously, am I alone here?

You've said it yourself pal. You're being unfair here. Until we see a trailer of the 2001 one's proportions, we just can speculate...

Duke3D had lot's of colors. Compared to Doom and Heretic that was a relief.

The screenshots so far have been a brown-and-grey-fest I hope we won't notice too much in the actual game. They suggest a serious game.

I want fun and colors.

Obviously a whole mountain of speculation just happened in this post. I think the trailer will fix this for me.

"They suggest a serious game."

This is a point I differ with many people over, I have always seen Duke3D as a serious game, and I want DNF to go more in that direction. But obviously you need the humor/one-liners and Duke attitude from Duke3d. The same with the graphics, I have always seen Duke3D as a game with a realistic art style as opposed to a cartoony one and the 2001 trailer definitely continued on in that style, the same with the media we have seen so far from this incarnation.

In summary I want a realistic style of graphics, combined with a story, HL/HL2 style "cut scenes" and dialog, like the aforementioned "What are you gonna do? Save the world all by your self?".

No.......Development time has been ridiculous and I'm tired of the whole area 51 type development......10 + years, OMG...I mean really what do we have that tells us that this game will be all it's supposed to be? Thats right nothing, The whole "Stay Tuned" thing is what turned me sour.....I "Stayed Tuned" for over a year and got the same treatment and media release from the past 10+ years....every year it's the same thing wash, rinse, repeat,...I tried to stay tuned...and it killed my anticipation, now I'm just curious and come here out of habit: end of rant!!!

Yes, I want to play the game like no-one and will get it once it hits shelves. But anticipating it got old a long time ago

I agree. I'm constatly being amused when I hear all those comments. People are acting like Duke3D was a comedy game or something. Yeah, it is about the ultimate alien ass kicker and it's got humour and there are references to pop culture but the overall tone of the game is pretty serious.

Not only anticipating it got old.
I'm sure many of us wont live long enough to see the actual release

I mean... the media we have seen so far includes merely
a few character models.
They might aswell just have started making the game now.

Of course if they release any media now they might hype DNF,
creating pressure on themself and risking the media to make fun
of them once more.

But seriously... who cares about the media ?

Think about the fans who have been waiting for over 10 years,
believing in you, defending your work.

everything you said here is right... and i hope that their current build reflects that in every sense...

BTW was there ever a reason given why they aborted the stunning looking 2001 version?

Here's another perspective. Some friends of ours have a son who's 11, and a few months ago he was telling me excitedly that there's a new Duke Nukem game coming out called "Duke Nukem Forever". And I had to point out that the game has been in development longer than he's been alive.

That's the reason I'm so psyched. Face it, 3DRealms could have sold the license to one of the big evil corporations (metaphor) many years ago, and then they could have taken fat wads of cash and really enjoyed themselves for a few years (what's wrong with you guys?) instead of ponying their big egos up for another round.

But they chose the right thing. We may have gotten 2 or 3 mediocre games called Duke Nukem by now, or the Corporation might have just shelved the asset and decided to make fun and futuristic 3D marble puzzles (get back to work George, the marble can wait) and we might never talk about a future ever again.

Instead we will get the real Duke Nukem, in his Holy Awesomeness. I'm gonna continue to wave the flag, and to the people who don't come here, I'll continue to give them updates and optimism (the end is near) no matter how crazy they think I am.

I have completely the same feeling, although the teaser was impressive as well... But the 2001 version looked more as a full blown sequel, with not much duke 3d similarities, which i found very good...

But the teaser and the wallpaper give me the feeling that duke nukem forever will be a simple remake of duke 3d with a lame and simple story...

I,m judging here on trailers, i know that's a wrong thing to do...

I have to agree that the 2001 did have a 'real sequel' feeling to it. They should of released it back in 2001, that trailor looked really sweet, The game would've been seriously huge.

DNF is a remake of DN3D?
That's like saying Fallout 3 is a remake of Fallout 2.

Also, the recent screenshots being a gray-brown fest?
Gears of War 1 is a gray and brown fest.
What we've seen of Duke Nukem Forever looks very colorful (The strip joint screenshot for example, has very bright colors which I like.)

And you can't see any sign of whether of not the story's good, so you don't know if it'll just have a "simple-story."

We need another 2001-type trailer 3DRealms. Just to give your fans an ounce of hope. Screw whatever game journalist say. If they gave 10 years to Too Sucky..I mean, Too Human, they should give you a f*cking eternity!

Also, remember what Jace Hall told 1up:
"This is probably the only game worth waiting 12 years for. Perhaps longer... it was good."
Love that Jace Hall.

Remember, Jace Hall is great friends with 3D Realms, so of course he's going to say that. DNF footage was to get his show off the ground. It's a case of; if you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. But I do hope what he says is true.

but the lack of media or facts we get.

No, its not Christmas.

George, cant we have some sort of Q&A thread about the game ?
Fans ask questions about the game and you answer a bunch of them once a week.
This way you dont have to give out any media and you can still
do something for the fans.

Cool Re: Still anticipating DNF?
I love how the implication is, if you "anticipate" or "live by" (I dont even know what that means) you're somehow married to DNF/3DR and cant "see" other games. I've waited for DNF since I was 14, and i'm 20 now. If you "anticipate" the game, that means you "look forward" to it. It doesnt mean you're somehow joined at the hip with it. When DNF comes out, it will be awesome. If you dont look forward to that day, why bother posting in this section at all?

We were told very clearly that the TEASER WAS NOT THE START OF THE MEDIA BLITZ. People are making their own assumptions. That was a small in house thing they released because they knew we wanted to see something. It was not an opening of the flood gates, and George said that flat out. George also said this last December that the wallpaper wasnt that big a deal either. When the media they put out is a big deal, they'll say it is.

Does that mean im happy? No. I've put in plenty of waiting and im pretty sure we can all agree we're sick of waiting, but there's nothing we can do about it. So if you're excited to see DNF great, if you're not, what's the point in bitching? You're trying to move a boulder the size of a house.

That is not what that means. Dear God in heaven people over analyis things. "We'll see you on the flip side" means We'll see you later. It's just a term of expression for "we're not going to be in the office until after New Years, bye." Thats all it means.

I'm not really anticipating DNF per se, but I expect that it'll *eventually* be released. Maybe not anytime soon, but yeah.

As for whether the "feel" of the game will be correct, there's Jace Hall's off-show commentary:

Of course that's only his own viewpoint, but basically he mentions that it felt "correct", that while playing it reminded him of the fun he had in Duke3D.

Yes:

1998: 3 and a half minute trailer showing almost entirely gameplay. Extremely impressive for the time.

2001: 2 minute trailer (plus 30s of some unrelated stuff at the end) showing about 1 and a half minutes of gameplay. Extremely impressive for the time (and the best game trailer I've ever seen).

2007: 1 minute teaser unrelated to the actual game.

2008: A picture of things that might or might not be in the game.

Looking at the signs...it appears that in 2012 3DR will show us the name of the game in a nice font.

i see were your coming from but 3drealms hasen't been trying to create alot of media hype lately because we all know if they do it's going to be dismissed as not worth the wait.

it's like seeing the tv spot for an upcoming comedy you think will be hilarious only to find out they showed the best parts in the commercial.

also in 2008 we also received about 30 seconds of actual gameplayand 2 screenies from the game , it may not be much but it wets the whistles of the devotee's and doesn't stir up much attention.

Jace Hall wins the internet! His show is fantastic, funny, and he got Duke footage IN THE SHOW'S FIRST EPISODE!

Also, there's a flamewar between the videOP and this other guy in the comments section. So if you got a YouTube account, LIGHT THE FLAMES!
