Question Other demo hosts besides gamespot?
Im just wondering roughly how long it will take for places like file planet to get the demo? I live on the west coast so i guess technically it will be out at 9:01 pm here, but since i don't want to pay for gamespot im going to have to wait . If its will only take a matter of minutes or hours thats awesome since i won't be off work till about 10:30 anyways!! An answer from joe would be greatly appreciated .

On a side note it feels good to be back!!!!! I registred here along time ago maybe 4 or five years i think but then i lost my account info and when i would try to reregister it would tell me that my e-mail address was already tied to an account. I was finally about to e-mail 3dr about this and then it just let me register again im so happy!

Pay..?
It's free to register there...

And i'm pretty sure a registration isn't even needed to get it there...

The only thing keeping you from getting it there, might be the slow servers... But you should have no problems getting it there at all if you want to...

Oh really??? BEcuase when i clicked the link last night on the 3dr page it wanted me to register and had all these options for gold account or a 5.99 account. I rember i went through that crap with F.E.A.R. ill have to go back and look at the site harder. This is going to be a great day!

I wouldn't imagine it would take very long at all. Read this from my news story yesterday on the situation:

Quote:
Now Gamespot won't be the only place to get the demo, but they will be the first, and will be ready immediately upon the game's release Thursday morning. We will have a list of alternate download sites available once the game is out, please check back after the Gamespot premiere for further details.

Well, there's something there called "Basic membership" which is what i am there too... (basic member)

But as i said, i don't even think a registration is needed at all to download it...

[EDIT:]
Just tested it, it does indeed require you to join them...
But a basic membership doesn't cost anything as i said...

They also have "Complete membership" which does cost something, but that's only if you want to use thier highspeed servers, and other exclusive stuff...

I wouldn't 'reward' Gamespot/3DR for pulling off that exclusivity nonsense, there's plenty of other options available (and a little waiting won't kill you).

I plan to get the demo from Gamershell myself, the European servers at least are normally plenty fast for me.

The last couple of demos I've downloaded from Gamershell hit my connection's speed cap (+/- 1MB/s), no torrent has ever been that fast for me.
Of course, when the GH servers get hammered, things may be different.

As for Gamespot, downloading from there doesn't work correctly for me anyway, as their setup conflicts with my dl accelerator somehow.

Me as well, Gamershell, or Filefront...

Or maybe some Torrent, depending on the speed...

What about Usenet? If 3DR uploads it to a newsgroup that will be the fastest route for many people.

I will try Gamespot.
If not, Fileplanet or Fileshack.
Filefront loves giving me CRC error'ed archives a lot... unless it's a small file like some models for Gmod... otherwise... I downloaded the Doom 3 demo 3 times from them... 2 times it failed with CRC errors... and the 3rd time I just gave up half-way and went to h4x0rpl4n3t.

I just chatted with the guy at Gamershell (along with several others) just a minute or two ago, so they'll definitely get hooked up as quick as possible.

If I need a demo somewhat quickly, Gamershell (earlier in the day, the better) is usually a good bet.

Hey there...

We're starting to mirror new demo files on our recently relaunched site.

MHS - www.milehiservers.com

Although registration and download is free, please drop a note in our forums if you grab the file.

We will have a demo server up shortly.

Take care!!
