Re: Word from an old buddy...
Hey man! Just posted on your blog post.
It's great to see you here, you need to come back more as it's very hard for me to catch you on Google Talk (and vise versa heh) sometimes! |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
eh eh, sure thing man...
Well, main reason is because of the time, you live in the other side of the globe! xD I'll see if I can stick around more often around here! |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
Heh, even living on the same side of the globe its still hard to catch you though
Anyways, I enjoyed reading the blog. Brings back all the great memories and experiences you and I had with the game and the community. Its so weird to say things like this about a computer game but I wish time really wouldnt pass by so quick. I wanna go back again... |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
Just to give everyone an idea of where some of the old Max Payne modders now work:
HP - Seed Studios Aavenr - DICE StratonAce - Was TimeGate now Remedy Froz - Remedy |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
What about that MK productions guy? I searched for more of his work, but only found a game developer of the same name..... maybe it's not a coincidence....

Re: Word from an old buddy...
uh who?

Re: Word from an old buddy...
MK, I guess he called himself, though his mods on L4Y say "MK Productions."
He was the master mapper who made the Aesir project, and a few superb DMW maps..... |

Never heard of him.

Re: Word from an old buddy...
Yeah, seems like very few have. I recommend downloading his Aesir Project from L4Y though. It's a sleeper classic, real amazing geometry.
Did any game company ever pick up on MPH's talents, or did he just diappear? |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
I have him added on ICQ, although I don't see him online for a while now...
But yeah, he is extremely talented! He was working on a project with aavenr, maddie, and corwin, as a level designer. Dunno what's the status of his work, neither that project, I kinda lost track of the MP community! Shame on me! ;f |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
I'm sorry for asking this as you've probably heard it before, but what, then, is the state of Rogue Ops?

Re: Word from an old buddy...
I completely dropped that project!
I've been working on MP engine for too long, I had to move on... ;\ |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
ADM, so Straton went from TimeGate to Remedy? Nice.
Guess that means he isn't working on the new FEAR expansion. Sucks, I liked his level designing in Extraction Point.

Re: Word from an old buddy...
Hello there old gang.
Quote:
Kemical - Monolith sawn_off: MK is as you say, a terrific mapper. After he released those maps of his, we convinced him to work on 7th Serpent. Him and I worked for almost a year on a level of the mod that is supposed to be the second episode. If you scroll down on the main page of the site you can see some screenshots of it. I am no longer involved with 7th Serpent but Corwin is scripting the level and should be done with it sometime this year. That was almost two years ago though. I would have happily mentored MK to join the biz but alas, he wasn't too keen on it. Same for the dutch twins that scripted the first 7th Serpent level, Co&Co. Awesome talent, but no desire to do it for a living. Just to bring back the old memories, I seem to remember you were part of the original bunch of Max Payne 1 modders back in 2001 or 2002, no? I recall you were working on a mod with the baskinator that never came to fruition. Those were the days, uh? We were all young and naive... |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
I'm glad one of the elders still remembers me All those red-faced flames my younger self spat out to the next "kung fu 2.0, kemical's matrix lobby, max powers weapons" mish mash on MaxPayneHQ probably left an impression.
As for the mod with Baskinator, I'm guesing you mean The Killer, which did release a level. That was Co11, though. I was trying to make some levels back then, must've spent a year toying around with MaxED, never released anything, despite a promise or two... But hey, fast forward and the experience is still there, and I actually made a level for my first time a few months ago.... better late than never, I suppose. |

Re: Word from an old buddy...
Whoops! You are right, though I still remember your name, that was indeed co11. Not that I ever corresponded with the guy, but for some reason I still remember all this useless details about mods and modders from decades ago. (or what passes of as decades in the web.)
You mention Max Powers, and it brings all these old forgotten names like Code of War, Dodge This, Discworld, Action Movie Pagoda, The Kilo Project, The Crow, Project Orion and a dozen other MP1 mods that broke my 16 year old's heart by never amounting to anything. Kudos to you for finishing a level. That's more than I can say for biXen over at Paynereactor who spent years and years talking about his No More Turning Back mod, then scrapped that for a simple dead man walking level that also, to my knowledge, never ultimately happened. ADM: Pete, give it a couple of years and I have got a hunch that list will double in size. Some people actually bother to finish their studies before jumping on the fast track. Who knew!

Re: Word from an old buddy...
I shall be on that list one day. ONE DAY! ONE DAY!
Also, you coming to visit the other side of the sea someday, Aavenr? Some of my best moments were from Max Payne Center back in the day. Anybody remember THAT site?

Re: Word from an old buddy...
Fraeon you old fool! I plan to get on my pillaging attires and set sail for Finland in a matter of weeks to visit Froz and StratonAce. Would you happen to be based anywhere near Helsinki?
I do remember MPC. Some of the very early modding "tutorials" for MP1 were posted there, barely days after MP1 came out. |

And biXen and the #maxpayne gang is still around (me included). Maybe if I actually closed IRC and finished something, well...erm, no need to touch that topic further. Needless speculation, bleh.

Heheh, the DMW level is probably 90% finished, can't remember exactly, but I think the scripting was missing but spawn spots were placed. Still it wasn't really up to my standards, and even less now, so it won't be released. I did find it to be fun though. On the No More Turning Back note I made an entire level the wrong way, it was hell to ditch that, and the Chernobyl level was hell to find textures for, overambitious to say the least, at least the STALKER makers live nearby :P I guess real work just took over naturally. No time for anything else than being a web guru, and I have a new project underway now, which you may see the fruits of soon And yes, many people that used to be there in 2001 is still in #maxpayne at Quakenet |

Re: Word from an old buddy
Mostly HTML/CSS and web apps and such. Due to Bill Gates spitting out non-standards compliant browsers there's more and more work in the code alone :P

HOLY crap! Look at all these old timers here! All the old Max Payne modding warhorses gathering to say, "I remember when..." heh I just want to say thanks to each and every one of you guys for making the community what it was back then. We were small, but dammit, we were a family.

Re: Word from an old buddy
Remedy is incredibly cool. Alan Wake is incredibly cool. I've been very fortunate, and for that I owe you a "thank you" as well. You were one of many who helped and encouraged me along the way. I'll never forget that.
