Achievements, although a simple concept, absolutely rocks. I found myself playing just to unlock them (and enjoying it)

Something to do with Duke's mighty boot would be cool.

I remember something my friend told me back in the days of Duke 3D... you know how you can sometimes catch those lizard guys sitting on the can?? Well, he told me that if you shrink them before they stand up, they fall into the toilet and you can flush them down, LOHL! I probably spent a good hour trying to do this... those were the days! This would be a good feature to implement into Duke Forever, and it would make a nice ten point achievement

The "Where is it?" one is particularly interesting - since it would ease the minds of us completion nuts. We will still pretty much "use" every single interactive object in the game... and getting an achievement for that would be the icing on the cake, or the pie in pirate.

I would strive for all of these... Well except the one about stepping in crap. Only hardcore point junkies would go after that one.

Perhaps there could be a similar achievement as well, like going through the entire game without stepping in crap?

im not a huge xbox fan by any means so i might not know what im talking about here but...

Shouldnt achievements be really hard? They way I see it Ill play the game through once on medium, then again on hard a few times, and when im bored of that (god forbid!), then Ill start trying to pick off the achievements. They should be... well... achievements! Something to be proud of. To me, stuff like killing an octabrain or drinking some beer dont seem nearly complicated or difficult enough.

How about beat the game only using the pistol?
Or beat level X without picking up a single medkit or atomic health?
Or beat the entire game only using 2 saves.
I donno.

kind of offtopic but I hope DNF has a 'how long can you last' mode like Max Payne 2 had.
basically the game spawns an unwholly amount of monsters at you and you see how long you can go before dying.
I used to play that mode for hours in Max Payne 2, trying to add a second or two to my time each play. Fun stuff.

Some achievements should be hard, very hard, I agree with that. But achievements are about having fun with the game, too. Like finding hidden items or do funny things. Not-serious achievements can have 0 points and still be considered as achievements. Prey had secret achievements, which were very easy and about having fun. There has to be balance. For instance, F.E.A.R.. DAMN! Those are extremely hard and ask you to complete the game like 50 times. And Gears of War ones, killing 10,000 people? WTF! Balance is the key, and as I said before, there could be 100 or 200 achievements, many of them secret, and they'll act as incentives to explore and interact with the game.

I guess all I meant was that all achievements should be at least hard enough or complicated enough so that you dont accidentally accomplish them.

For example if you play the entire game though without even knowing there are achievements, and then you check the list and find out youve accomplished 50 of them, then those 50 probably shouldnt have been achievements. They should be things you have to specifically try for, not just any little thing that can happen.

You need to own an Xbox 360 to be able to understand the achievements fully, they're just for a bit of entertainment... if you take them so seriously, you aren't playing the game the way it's meant to be played... like, I mean, enjoying yourself? Something I haven't experienced in a PC game for a VERY long time... but that's just me.

Agreed. There are achievements for completing the game, or killing some enemies, or doing special things. But there are other which are funny. Simply fun. The best example is Crackdown. It has an achievement for climbing a building. Yes, a building. The f**king tallest building in the game. To achieve that, you must search for Agility Orbs all over the city. When you make it, there's another achievement that's about jumping to a small pool near the base of the building. Fun is what makes achievements so enjoyable.

Remind this thread's purpose is to create achievements for a possible DNF 360 version.

Achievements are too cool! And there could be some really awesome ones in a Duke game... so here are my ideas for Achievements in DNF(Some have been inspired by earlier post in this thread, like the crap one).

Achievements ideas:

Put on your Shitkickers and kick some shit! - Find a turd and Mighty Foot it 15 meters(yards) or more. ...Say, what if you could find a pile of dung on a multiplayer map and you could kick it onto another player! No damage or gameplay penalties would happen, only sheer humiliation! Turd-Tag!!! Ok that last part is probably not worth programming hours, not to mention stupid...
Anyway more Achievements.

Gun play - Kill several foes with 3 of your weapons, at least one kill for each, within a short time limit.

Gun Lord - Kill MANY foes with Duke's complete arsenal, at least 2 kills per weapon, within a short time limit.

Battle Lord Slayer - Allways liked "boss killer" Achievements like this. And there should of course be Achievements for killing other bosses!

The Last March of the Brothers of Battle - Should boss clones return for DNF you get this Achievement for eliminating all boss clones of one type, in this case Battle Lords.

I'm plum Duked out! - Ending a multiplayer match as the least scoring player.

What the hell is this?! - DNF detecting saved data from Halo 3... Could also be called Traitor!

Child of the Atom - Find and consume ALL atomic health in the game! This Achievement could instead be called Atomic God!

Im danish and we TEND to be very tolerant regarding things such as nudity and, relevant to this case, foul language. Perhaps our tolerances(spelling) are closer than I think, I just wanted to say sorry if I stepped on somebody's feet.

And now back to the thread! Got some Achievements for you:

Touched by the Immortals - This is simply a Viral Achievement. 3D Realms(having worked on DNF so long you might consider them Immortals ) plays online multiplayer games, anyone playing with or against them gains this Achievement. And then anyone playing with or against an owner of this Achievement gets it themselves and so on.

Sharpshooter - in Multiplayer match, 10 kills using scoped weapons, no explosives, with accuracy of 90% or better.

Savior of the Babes! - Saving all savable babes in the game.
