Re: Wiki
I misunderstood the question. My usergroups remark was for creating approved editors. not edits.

Re: Wiki
I edit on Wikipedia all the time, and run my own little Wiki using the mediawiki software. To stop anonymous editing, you can make it so people have to sign up. Also, you can make it so that nobody can sign up (you can make accounts for people though). Don't give up on the idea, Wikis are a great way to share information.

I agree with the idea that you should have it for released titles only.

Re: Wiki
Wouldnt it be possible to make some kind of system so that only people that have been posting on this forum for awhile could edit the wiki? That way you wouldnt have trolls etc at least.

No. The Wiki is self contained, it needs people to register an account JUST for the wiki. The closest thing I can think of is there is a Wiki setup where you have to be a member for X number of days before you can make substantial edits.

Trust me, I've been looking at this for a while and I still can't come up with anything that is super safe from vandalism.

Keep poking with ideas though guys, eventually there has to be something.

There is a wiki script built primarily for these (vBulletin) forums that handles exactly like a wiki but uses forum accounts and permissions instead.

Something to look into.

There's two by the same people.. there's one which is just an integration with vB and MediaWiki:
http://www.nuhit.com/vbwiki-pro/features.html

And there's one which is a wiki designed specifically to work within the forums:
http://www.nuhit.com/nuwiki/features.html

Thats what I was thinking. Or you could just decline any accounts that are created on the wiki that doesnt fit with a user here on the forum. (but thats more tedious)

It could work better actually, because one of the biggest fears is all the nutjobs that have been banned from the forums for cause would just turn up there and start a fresh batch of asshattery.

To tie it into the vB account system could work perfectly.

Re: Wiki
NuWiki looks like the best choice since it looks as if it will give us the same control we have on here.

Also, it looks like it may make Wiki editing a bit simpler by allowing users to edit wiki using the same interface and code as posting a topic.

Actually, I kind of like the other product, because it does what I've wanted. Let me use Media Wiki, and have a separate login system. NuWiki just basically makes it part of the forums - I always kind of wanted it to be a "separate" thing as such.

I just wish they had a downloadable demo or something. I really don't like buying software without being able to try it first.

They have a demo wiki you can go into with full admin and screw around with.

Not the same - I'd want to see how it integrated HERE, not there.

So, are there any news or updates about this? It would be handy to have all the information collected, like the walkthroughs, in one place.

It's still happening, I've had some other projects pop up.
