Prey v1.1 PC Patch Released

Tomorrow (Wed the 30th) at noon eastern time the PC patch for Prey will be released.

Here's the changelog from Human Head...

• Multiplayer bandwidth optimization to allow better play on higher latency connections
• Fixed projectile effects not showing up on dedicated servers
• Fixed crash at startup due to time/date validation on some systems
• Fixed crash at startup due to querying old OpenAL drivers
• Fixed an occasional crash on the dedicated server
• Fixed a crash when using image_usecache cvar with very big textures. Textures whose lowest mip map doesn't fit will be default texture. This was causing a crash when a modified prey was loading "Mother's Embrace".
• Fixed a crash on some machines when reading savegames.
• Some timedemo features not appearing if you restart prey between record/playback
• Added widescreen resolutions to menus
• Updated multiplayer browser to fix servers not showing up due to DNS resolution
• Updated multiplayer browser not keeping join button up to date when server summary wasn't the active tab.
• Updated multiplayer browser so punkbuster icons show up in their column properly
• Updated multiplayer browser so mod games' icons show up properly updated multiplayer browser so server scanning is more consistent on slower connections
• Fixed multiplayer weapon exploit
• Bumped network protocol version. Unpatched games will not be able to play online with patched games.

This is a tech/bug fix patch, there are no new game play elements in this update (nor are there any planned for the future). Please note that the previously announced "new content" (maps, multiplayer skins) is not part of this update, and will be made available at a later date.

Couldn't care less for this one. Ithe game runs great for me. The patch might makes the game runs better but sinse there is nothing that keeps me playing this game so far I just have to wait for the next one

Is the "weapon switch" slowed down at all?...Hopefully, when the "new content" comes out,it will be in the form of a "patch" or, otherwise, this community wil be divided into three parts:client and server with no patch; client and server with patch; client and server with patch and "new content".Primarily, any server delivering "new content",will not be able to host clients that are just "patched", or "unpatched". Clients with "new content" will be able to join servers without new content. Reminds me , potentially of the Doom 3 expansion, when ppl who tried to serve ROE {basically Doom 3 with new content} gave up because most ppl playing online didn't have the expansion

Like every other game ever developed, when a patch comes out you are expected to download it before playing online. Thats just common sense. The content is a whole other matter.

I think HH time is going on sketching out Prey 2 and taking a rest for a while. And of course providing us with updates.

So the 1.0 server software is not compatble with 1.1 clients. Will you release 1.1 dedicated server shortly?

The 1.1 dedicated server files will be included with the patch for Windows. The linux files will come from the guy who wrote them.

Additionally, I've moved the posts about the "charging for content" issue into the Weekly Update #24 thread where it was discussed - that conversation has no bearing to this thread, so please do not bring it up here, this thread is for discussion of the patch being released tomorrow.

If so then it's alright to me sinse i havn't touch PREY for weeks now. Not even 2-3 maps thrown in...that's just sad in my opinion.
I don't mind paying for a full addon/extension pack but a couple of maps should be for free. Well, great SP but finished it twice and that's it...no more replay value after that. Just hope that the mod com is bringing out some stuff...which i havn't heard of

What it means is that folks who are unpatched (v1.0) will not be able to play folks who are patched (v1.1). This is a pretty standard thing in games. It's been going on as long as we've had multiplayer in our games going back over a decade.

I don't care about it either, 'cause I don't play Multiprey. I'll just do like I did for Quake 2, Unreal, Max Payne, C&C:Renegade and Doom 3: I'll switch directly from the out-of-the-box version to the final patch.

I understand that. it's not my first PC game
But since the patch doesn't offer anything new to the MP, which i havn't played for weeks now, it doesn't matter to me. most people I know who bought the game didn't have issues with it nor lags or any other kind of complains except that the game is no longer fun to play because of lack of maps and game modes. None of us is playing Prey anymore. All we do is hoping that there will be a mappack or a decent addon/extension pack. I'm not talking about the EAish 3 maps and 2 new guns 10$ thingy but a realy one that might boost the gameplay.

On the last LAN party noone except me and a friend had PREY installed anymore...everyone still got D3 and Q4 and even CoD+UO (yes,the first one) on their HD. That's just bad...I like prey but there is just nothing that makes me wanna keep it on my comp right now. why not just give out some maps that you got in your pocket somewhere if you look deep enough to the com so that at least the few people that still plays it can get some fun out of it

i think the patch is in response to a lot of the comments made here. it certainly could have come out later with additional content, but the problem is that the exising MP issues are causing players to leave MP, and the longer that goes on, the harder it will be to get them to come back. Better to fix things now and release the content and any additional fixes in a seperate patch.

I hope I can still spew acid gun and immediatly rocket an opponent. The exploit was going back to acid and rocket again to shoot multiple rockets at once, right?

You'd choose to play Doom 3 DM over Prey? I fail to see the logic in that, as Doom 3 is clearly not balanced or made for multiplayer at all. Prey is much more solid and polished.

Since iD originally made Doom 3 for single player only and added MP about half a year before release. They should've stayed SP only IMO.

I'm happy for this fix...

Doom 3 is as balanced as Prey, especially if you use the popular EMZ mod to allow a better spawnning weapon than the pistol. It's fan base has stayed the same for the last year, maybe gotten a little busier and that with losing some players to Q4.Prey has more in common with Doom 3 than any other game.....Oh , if we could get our player base up to Doom 3 levels..........I was hoping the patch would weaken the rl a bit....I, also, thought that the "weapon exploit issue" was tied into the"no delay weapon switch" issue soI will be curious to see how the "exploit" is resolved...I hope the "server exe." allows you to see the acid on the walls with the 1.1 release

I believe the whole weapon switch thing was an over sight.It's not done that way in the SP part of the game but we shall see!!

As mentioned there are plenty of mods and there are still constantly new maps coming out from the mod and mapper com. PREY got nothing so far.

The patch coming today (Wednesday August 30) is great news!

Please, the first to download and apply the patch check to see
if the need for disk inserted when playing is removed in both
the SP and MP gameplay.

I intend to fulfil my promise of buying another unit of Prey
(NEW factory sealed) the 6th unit if the need for disk inserted
when playing is removed... and I was just checking my wallet...
I have the cash to buy it today so I only need confirmation if
its this the patch that removes the disk check or if it will be
in a future patch... for me a want it now, and I'm ready now.

PS: I don't have broadband so I can't check it myself today and
that is why I'm asking for confirmation.

Actually, either Joe or George said that it would be patched in the future. Perhaps not in this release, but later.

I think he was referring to being in this patch released today. Yes, George said that in the past, but as to when it will happen, I have no idea.

How it will be obtained is as of yet undecided, however, that's for another time, not for this patch, let's try and keep discussion about this patch in this thread.
