Chris, how long (and how much practise) did it take to nail down the Duke song?

Scott: I'm guessing I probably spent a week listening to the Megadeth version and the original to get ideas. Then I recorded it over the course of maybe 2 weekends. The theme was very easy to instantly pick up. The lead work and mixing / mastering is where I spent the most of my time. I very rarely get to sit down and do something like this from start to finish. My time is usually heavily broken up in small segments here and there.

The distortion is perfect, I don't know if i'd say its better than the megadeth version mostly because of the fake drums though. Which program did you use to program those drums?

Metal Boss: I just used a soundfont on these drums and programmed them with Sonar. After listening to the mix again last night I think I'm gonna hold off a bit on releasing a higher quality version. It makes the drums sound even less real and there are a few mixing issues I'd need to fix before I'd be happy with it.

I didn't even realize google video had comments. That's pretty cool that Lee commented on it. Can't believe its already been 10 years since he wrote the original

Metal Boss: I appreciate that, but they do sound less than desirable compared with what I could do with a little more time spent using Giga Studio instead. Plus taking out the sound effects leaves dead space in the composition that I'd like to fill with something musical. It may take some time to polish it, but it'll be worth the wait

Hi Vertexguy..

i recently finish my music education with Drums as speciality..
Maybe i can fix some real drums for you? I have some connections to soundguys etc, and could easily get a session at a studio, for the recording, if you could supply the track, with pure guitar (No other effects at all, drums etc).

Hmm... Vertexguy, i have a studio session booked about 3 weeks from now where i will record some drums for a song i've made. Maybe i could squeeze in some time to record the drums for your guitar work on the Duke theme. Would you be interested in that? Then i can mix it and master it and we can release it after that. It would be near-pro quality.

I have another band on hold for the same session, but right now it seems like they are going to cancel, so there will probably be some spare time where i can play the Duke drums.

Thumbs up Re: Vertex Man's take on Duke Theme
I have to say, this is just great.

I am eagerly waiting for the high quality version. I'm a perfectionist and I would love you for that.

Besides, high quality should be at least (!) Wave, Stereo, 44,1 kHz, 1411 kbit/s. You can create a 7.1, 192 kHz too of course.
Lossless compression (FLAC for example) is acceptable.

Has this been done? I couldn't find it on Vertexguy's site in any case. The tribute totally rocks, though it feels a bit silly to listen to this with all those one-liners mixed through it

Vertexguy, I looked/listened to some of the other Duke theme video's over at Youtube.
I must say Vertexguy yours has the best video and sound hands down, no contest. Recording it direct with a clear video to see the finger work made all the difference. Awsome Job!!

P.S. I can't just listen to the music, I find I have to watch the video because seeing it being played brings even more coolness to it.

Thanks Hunter, not sure what you mean by "a video of just the guitar music only" though. Unless you mean exactly what I have now minus the duke talk?

To give everyone an update on the reworking of Duke, I've been doing serious crunch time the past 2 months so I haven't been home to be able to work on anything. The good news is the crunch should be ending in August. I'll be upgrading some things in the mean time that should make for an even better final product. Stay tuned...
