More Prey Forums
I'm going to be setting up the other Prey forums shortly. I had been planning on replicating the structure we have for the Max Payne Forums. That is:

Prey General (this forum)
Prey Gameplay & Strategy
Prey Mods
Prey Technical Information

I'm throwing it out here to see if anyone has any good ideas as to some other Prey forum that might be needed. If you have an idea to post, please give some thought as to whether it will fit under one of these four above.

Thoughts?

The whole thing will be spoilers - if you don't wanna know, better stay off the forums until you've finished the game.

Anyway, that would fall under Gameplay.

Everything I can think of would fall under those, or at least sub-categories of those forums.

Good enough, IMO.

I was thinking it was, but I threw this out there in case someone had an idea I couldn't think of.

I though you planned it like that. But level design can be such a broad topic, blending it with mods will make it hard to overview.

But im happy with it wathever. =) Would it be possible to seperate them with colors or tags maybe?

Could there be need of a seperate forum of the X360 version..? Just to keep out PC stuff and such, which doesn't necessarily have anything in common with each other... But i believe, this could also just be part of the General Prey forums..?

I assume Prey's music is also part of the "Prey General" forum..!

I'm not sure a seperate forum is needed for the 360 version. Mods/editing won't apply, gameplay is the same (except for input method). Tech support would be the only issue where it'd be really different - but said differences would be obvious.

I'm not sure it really needs to be seperated out like that - unless someone can give me a real good compelling reason as to why it should be that way.

I currently only had maps in mind...
People shouldn't confuse some community maps to be for both versions... (say, a map for the PC version, shouldn't be confused to be for the X360 or both versions)

(But, is custom level editing for the X360 even possible..?)

But i don't think this is a big deal... But maybe there would pop up occations, which could need a seperate section... But that has yet to happen first though...
Unless of course, if anyone else can come with a good reason beforehand...

I think a PREY 360 sub-forum would be handy. It might cut down on any PC Vs. Console debates.
But then again, we might never get into those. But I remember in the Doom / HL2 forums when the Xbox versions came out... a lot of bitching.

You've got a point there...
I'm tired of those kinds of discussions... This might cut down possible fights...

One of my forum rules is "console vs pc" discussions are no no for that reason. I wouldn't allow pissing matches over that anyway.

Still, I created one, we'll see how it goes.

imo an extra subforum for the 360 version isn´t necessary, I guess there won´t be many threads that couldn´t be in the general Prey forum. When a 360 user has a problem like *Prey makes my console restart* then he can post that in the tech support forum.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Still, they're not going to be open for posting until closer till the demo comes out anyway.

After the demo we'll see how much attention the seperate forums get, and if one isn't going well Joe can always cut it.

So no harm either way.

Yeah, if it's too weak, I'll merge/seperate as demand goes.

Yeah not too sure about the seperate 360 forum. The others are good though

Maybe instead of a 360 forum just have a topic in the tech info forum asking for people to clarify which version they have in their posts.

The 360 forums will also be good for 360 technical issues, a lot of forums have those seperate for PC and Console games.
Other then that I can't really think of a reason (unless we want the 360 people out of our way. ) <-- that was a joke for those that didn't get it.

In my opinion there's a significant difference between client and server technical issues. Of course, as I have no idea how the dedicated server files will look like until release date, I might be wrong. I'll try to illustrate it with an example.

A very common technical support question related to client software can be for example that 'sound is not working', or 'graphic issues' or a 'lost savegame'. Server software related questions sound like 'how do i disable friendly fire on my server', 'server crashes', or 'how many players can I host', etc. In my opinion, these two types of questions are not only slightly different, they are also asked by different types of users. Many times, a server admin does use his game in a different way than users that just click in the server browser and join a game (or do not play mulitplayer at all).

Personally, I like the structure on this forum as it seperates the threads by their subject in a clear way and it gives visitors the oppurtunity to look in the subforums they are interested in (or should post to, if they want to start a thread). Maybe there's something you can use from its structure.

Any questions just let me know.

The main purpose of my reply to Joe is to outline the difference between client- and serverside issues. The 'missing' of my suggested subforum is (for me) the most important difference between the subforums here and my example

But they're both "technical" issues. I see no distinction.

It's a layout issue. The way I have it structured, is you click on "Prey", and then you see the descriptions of the subforums like you ask. This has worked for Max Payne, I never got a single complaint about that forum layout, so I just replicated it here.

Besides, if it turns out to be a genuine interface problem later (and not just one person's dislike for the layout choice here), then I can adjust as need be. But I don't think it will be an issue at all.

I just fear having too many forums and having too many forums that also are very similar related so it'd be hard to tell which topic belongs where.

Make my job more difficult why don't ya

Seriously though is it needed? While it would be cool that sort of stuff can be posted in the General forum anyway. But I really don't like that 360 specific forum idea.

The way it is now (minus the 360 forum) is good but if you get rid of the 360 forum then you could have a Multiplayer forum I guess. Meetups and server setups etc.

This makes perfect sense. As opposed to a 360 forum, have a multiplayer forum as it would cover meetups, sever setup, Xbox Live setup, game modes, and official maps that aren't mods.
