I already own some XBLA games due to special events (recent XBL downtime, game temporarily free to download, stuff like that), and a friend bought some games on my box, but it seems I'll be getting some actual Microsoft Points of my own somewhere in the future.

Now I'm just curious if they're going to try to make the HRP available for the Live Arcade release, and which codebase they're going to use.

Did people ever agree on what license they wanted to use for their respective artwork? Will they be using polymost and the other various enhancements, or keeping the code as pure as they can?

Well, a lot of XBLA games surpass 50mb (some are like 150mb) and there's always the option to release the HRP as a seperate download...

I can't speak for George, but my personal guess is that we wouldn't touch HRP - it's not our product, and I don't think we'd want to release something under our name that wasn't our own work.

Oh...hmm, didn't know that. Well then...we can forget about that. Oh well, DOOM did great sales without an HD makeover so I'm sure Duke can hold his own...

Re: Duke3D on Xbox Live Arcade!
Of course opinions differ on what to expect from an "HD makeover", but Doom does support "HDTV 1080i" and "Dolby 5.1 Surround".
Of course the textures and sprites are still the same ("smooth textures" means anti-aliasing as far as I noticed from playing the demo once).

I expected Joe's reply, and expect George to indeed reason likewise.
I don't mind; there's nothing wrong with the old game as is.
The thing with texture detail, but also resolution, is that though at first things may look either beautiful or plain ugly, but as long as the game is fun, after playing a while you don't even notice it anymore.
Subconsciously, obviously you still notice, and it does matter, just not as much as you might think.
At least, that's the way it works for me, and most people I spoke with/heard from.

I'd rather have some new features, like a Capture the Flag or Invasion (UT2004) mode, of course Achievements, more multiplayer skins, stuff like that.

I definitely hope it isnt Polymost'ed. Also, it'd be great if there was a way we could transfer usermaps.

One word: Visit an Unreal Tournament-related site, like BeyondUnreal, and do some research about custom content on the Xbox 360.
(No, I can't count.)

In case you don't feel like doing research:
MS is very protective about their Xbox 360 and Live brands, and requires every little bit of content supplied through those to undergo thorough testing.
This pretty much makes it impossible to support user-made content.
Epic has cited their talks with MS about allowing this (like on Windows and PS3; Sony is much more loose apparently) as the main reason for the delay of UT3 on the Xbox 360.

Three words: Don't count on it.

If you ask me it's unlikely to be a version other than the original DOS one.
It doesn't include The Birth, that would really suck.
I suppose if the footprint of 3 episodes is already near the maximum allowed by MS, having the Plutonium Pack content as a download would make sense...

DN3D still hasn't officially been announced for XBLA, so I don't think Joe will clarify this until after that.

I can't tell you anything, since it hasn't been announced. We still have not given official word this is happening, so don't assume it, eh?

All I did is theorize on the non-inclusion of HRP assuming we DID do it. Don't get ahead of yourselves.

Re: Duke3D on Xbox Live Arcade!
For an XBox Live release I would prefer it without HRP.

Smooth textures are almost certainly a must, but I'd also love to see better up/down looking though that's not vital since Duke is designed to play well looking mostly side to side.

Doom is id Software, Nerve Software, Vicarious Visions (and of course Microsoft) says Wikipedia.
Duke Nukem 3D would be 3DR and maybe another company who ported it/is porting it/will port it (assuming the these rumours are true; still haven't seen an official announcement).
In other words, only Microsoft's say in things would mean the DN3D release would be as complete as Doom.
I do agree that it's the most likely though.

Yeah, there has been no mention of the PSN yet from Joe's side. If, just hypothetically, an XBL version would be made, would it be thinkable that a PSN version might be made as well? Or are there any hard reasons for never, ever, doing so (even if it's just "because we think the PS3 sucks")?

Because I for one would certainly buy Duke3D on the PSN.

I understand the Xbox 360 is closer to a PC than the PS3, so that could mean a PSN port is more unlikely.
Of course it could also not.

I'm sure Microsoft will get right on that.

You do realize that even if we coded the entire thing, handed it to them 100% completed, 100% bug tested, and everything totally finished..

It's not up to us when it gets released. XBLA release schedules are a nebulous thing, we wouldn't be the ones deciding when it comes out.
