Your insta-shooter (just add water) with a nice setting. Portals are heavily underused, little to no interactivity, not ambitious at all compared to the original Prey. Some places seem blatantly cut at last minute, I suspect there originally was a lot more to do at the resistance hideout (I guess they figured it hurt the pace).. and wasn't Tony about to gain super sayajin powers when baddies dropped by? Entire game was spoiled in teasers and trailers, Half Life 2 all over again. Also, the game was dragging for me and I beat it in approximately 4 hours and 40 minutes, no zerg rush.

I agree with OmarTheZealot on everthing except the ammo locations. I really don't care if the ammo is realistically placed.

The guns in prey weren't very interesting, they looked cool I will admit that. But they were still your average FPS guns. They combined a sniper rifle with an assault rifle. The shotgun shot goo. And of course the pocket knife gun, which was actually kinda cool. Freezing enemies was fun, all the other fuctions were pretty generic.

Multiplayer was unplayable even with low ping. The delay from firing any weapon and the projectile being shot out was rediculous.

I really liked this game. Decent story, nice looking, guns that were fun to shoot. The gravity stuff changed the gameplay from "move boxes to get there" to more of a "each level IS the puzzle" kind of gameplay. Nice change from other shooters.

I also didn't feel like I was being led from point A to B. I wanted to continue, unlike recent games. The way you also tied in the story into the game was very interesting. It wasn't necessary to read signs, listen to the radio, etc. to understand what's going on, but if you did it was interesting!

No monologs, and if was talking, it wasn't foreverrrrrrrrrrr. Because of this, I didn't mind the game only lasting me ~6/7 hours (adding on time for listening to people talk or reading books worth of text isn't gameplay. I wish other devs would understand this). So unlike some other shooters, this was 6/7 hours of FUN, not 10/15 hours of sleep.

i thought the D3 joke was pretty good. And the portal-maze reminded me a LOT of the Lost Woods in Zelda 1.

No rail gun was also a plus! (the sniper was pretty cool. Loved the red laser sights!).

I just finished this game and watched it even after the credits...and WoW.

What a great game this was! Everything was over the top: The weapons, the cool level designs, the graphics, even the story! I enjoyed playing this more than I enjoyed playing F.E.A.R. or Farcry.

Bring on a patch or part 2!

Meh. This didn't impress me one bit. The weapon sounds are all really weak, the graphics are derivative and clichéd, the story is hackneyed, the gameplay is extremely linear, the voice acting is wooden and the dialogue is clearly pitched at teenage boys.

Sure, there are a few novelties thrown in to sustain your interest for a few levels, but it's ultimately a dull and repetitive game.

I like first person shooters, but I just don't see what anyone sees in this game. To me it just represents six hours of my life I'll never get back.

The only good thing I can say about it is that it only cost me £14 (for a brand new copy) last week. But that also shows how much the gaming public think of it... as does the fact that went I went Xbox Live and couldn't find anyone playing this at all!

i recently bought PREY for my MAC.
I can't type all the praises in so many areas of the game that I would like to,
as I have yet to finish the play.
The program runs so close to perfect, even the computer smiles
Since i don't have the luxery of time to play video games straight through in a couple days, after a few days of 'non-play', I find myself with the urge to 'replay' a previous situation; and if there were a "scene select" page, I wouldn't just simply "resume" like i always end up doing... i ain't never seen before nuthin' yet!

This is the coolest new game that I own, and it has the most rich Sci-Fi visuals of any FPS i've played. i really think so.

I thought it was pretty good, but compared to a game like Half Life 2 it falls short with its "Just run the F*** forward and shoot anything that moves!" idea. I felt it was missing puzzles cause the only challenging puzzle was when I was in that cube thing with the electric blue lights. The graphics weren't bad, heck they were great! I was wondering if they could tone the graphics down cause when I walked through a normal door all of sudden I get stuck in a freeze for like 5 minutes. Now on to Tommy, he was a crying sack of crap. At the beginning
he's depressed at the end, he's still ******* depressed! I thought that he would at lest be a little bit happy knowing that he saved the human race and his girlfriend from a gigantic sphere thing(even though he ends up killing her(THE IRONY!!!)! ) The story wasn't too bad. A few kinks there and here but it was good. weapons were nice! They kept to a "normal" layout. As in the rifle as a machinegun and sniper, or the acid sprayer as a shotgun. Over all this game was good but it's just missing something.

I thought it was rather generic and by the time I was halfway through I was waiting for it to be over (it started getting boring). I loved the weapons, the only weapon I didn't like was the Hunter rifle, while it looked awesome the sound was pretty weak. The level design was good but it could have used some more variety. The story was very good, especially the Land of the Ancients part.

Re: The "What Did You Think Of Prey?" Thread
I liked Prey a lot "BUT" the vehicle air skiff thing. I wish that was a spaceship with a cool cockpit. Also I think there should of been some open outdoor type levels. I was in Disbelief when Jen died and was disappointed with the plot after that. The last battle was unrewarding and all the puzzles gave me a headache and I even had to have a mate take over for some of them. I think Tommy is a cool character and enjoyed playing him but I could of wrote a sci fi adventure with a better plot then this one. Due to the lack of Sci fi FPS shooters at the time Prey was played at my house a lot and my son still plays it on the 360.

Finally finish my first round. Combination of Great art design and fun puzzles make this game heads above your average FPS. Game mechanics such as gravity walk, portal, spirit walk are refleshing. Personally, I would like a stronger storyline, much larger maps. Looking forward to Prey2.

Half-Life/Half-Life 2/Episode 1; FEAR, NeverWinter Nights 2; Company of Heroes all have equal or better voice acting.

Other than Enisi, there weren't any performances that stood out. They were servicable and they worked, but there wasn't anything that will remain in the conciousness of gamers for a while to come.

Had some great original gameplay ideas, but unfortunately(IMO) Prey never took the ideas quite far enough, content wise.
Story needed a little more character development/interaction, in order to really immerse and get the player to care about his NPC friends.

Looking forward to an improved Prey 2!

well, I got it today and finished it today. Although it was fun and vary imaginative it was vastly to short. I really cant believe how short it was. this was a huge disappointment and I am sorry I spent the money. I guess I shouldn't expect more then 10 hours of play in a fps anymore, as that seems to be the norm now.

First post, hi everyone!

I've been looking forward to Prey since the screenshots were first printed in CVG when I was a kid. Cut to 22 years old and I just completed it last weekend.

It was worth the wait, I really enjoyed it and loved some of the puzzles. I love how fresh and innovative Prey was even though it was set almost entirely inside all the time and how expansve the enviroments were.

My only slight points were that I wish the Gravity and Portal technology was showed off a bit more and a few more outside enviroments could be explored. Hopefully that will be added to Prey 2!

Brillant game!

Re: The "What Did You Think Of Prey?" Thread
This is what I think of Prey in regards to single-player fps released since 2004.

1) F.E.A.R.
2) HL2/HL2:Ep 1
3) S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
4) Chronicles of Riddick:Escape from Butcher Bay
5) Far Cry
6) Prey
7) Sin:Episodes
8) Call of Duty 2
9) Doom 3
10) Quake 4

Solid, highly polished fps. Overall excellent visuals marred by sometimes poor quality textures. Levels were imaginatively layed out despite the inherent limitation of the environment(alien bio-mechanical theme and little else). Unremarkable enemy AI in comparison to HL2 and F.E.A.R. Very linear gameplay. Either a mis-use or underuse of innovative features like portals and gravity control. Characters failed to evoke much empathy, story didn't intrigue me much either.

Some games make you feel like you're in a movie, some games make you feel like you're in a sandbox, and a few do a little of both. Prey is definitely a movie-like fps which isn't my favorite kind of fps because I always feel like I'm merely along for the ride.

My View on the story: Its a great story, I have not seen many games starring Native Americans, or a fair bit of accuracy to there beliefs.
A very well done story.

My View on game play: I found it a little odd towards the beginning, that Tommy is armored in a white shirt, and a leather jacket, and takes as much damage as he did and lives.

Personally, I think most Quake like FPS's are wacky because this.
I could understand this if Tommy got some better alien armoring later in the game, but its never made any sense to me.

The Spirit walking feature was in the thyme of the story, and was quite allot of fun. I expect allot more out of body abilities in the sequel.
