I regain interest in DNF for a while every couple of years. The forums are the same each time, much like the DNF advert on Amazon.

No, that's no longer true. I just checked Amazon.co.uk to confirm and for the first time in 13 years they are not giving a release date. Just a release year - 2012.

But the forums are essentially the same:

i) Masses of speculation either from no evidence at all or based on wild optimistic speculation from anything said by anyone connected with 3DR. If someone from 3DR scanned their backside and put it online somewhere, people on these forums would interpret it as a clue about DNF.

It's all pointless. Secrecy is the main product of 3DR and has been for many years. Conspiracy believers should be insisting that it's 3DR running the conspiracies, not the USA government. There's no way the USA government could keep the secrets, but 3DR could.

Maybe DNF will eventually be released...in a blank box and without telling anyone, so that no secrets are revealed. People would then rush to these forums to speculate on the meaning of the blank box.

ii) Threads about what people want in the game or on the box.

Lots of fun in these threads. Which is probably the only fun we'll ever have with DNF. Some good ideas too, but many of those repeat after a while. What do you want in the box? The same things people said they wanted in the box a year ago, five years ago, ten years ago.

What do I want in the box? A disc. With DNF on it.

Thanks for the references - they enabled me to check my book and confirm that my memory is wrong - it is 'insensibly', not 'inevitably'.

I must have been remembering the word that made most sense to me in that context rather than the one that the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used. Which is a capital mistake

I'm enthusiastic, but I don't make silly predictions and guesses on when or if DNF is released. There is nothing to discuss, but you keep bringing up some stuff that Scott Miller has said on facebook - stuff that means nothing.

Whenever somebody says you need to do something else with your life or to stop posting, it's those people who should consider stepping away for a bit. It's only a game, and we're having fun here. If you can't stand a little positive speculation maybe you should step back from the keyboard and go do something else.

For us that are here to have fun, and have a positive outlook for the game (which is coming soon), we should tell the others to go piss up a rope or something if they have a problem with it.

I'm absolutely sick of those crying that you, Jobi, are somehow: Upsetting People, Making problems from Starting Rumors, Confusing new people who are looking for "Real" information, filling the forums with imaginary scenarios and visions from your cereal.

Who the hell cares? This forum is filled with a bunch of negative Nancys who won't pull their heads out to talk about the game (coming soon) except to criticize others that we are somehow ruining their experience with inconclusive information.

You're a reasonable poster around here; why not talk about what we want in the box yet again? I remember asking for the same player race in countless threads of an evolving game forum for years. Week after week, the same inquiry, time after time I ask for Horta. A year before the game was released, I asked for a Horta... two years later, I asked for a Horta. It never pissed me off that we had already talked about the character mesh only working for bipeds... and as it turns out, we may someday play as Horta.

I just can't ascribe to a philosophy that everything has been said, so we shouldn't talk anymore. That's like the patent judge who said everything useful has already been invented. Those photoshop box pictures are years old now - it's a new day - let's talk about what we want in the box, on the box, in the game - if not for our own benefit, then for the benefit of anyone who hasn't put their two cents in. What's wrong with visiting this forum everyday anew?

If you would have the sense to actually comprehend what was said, you would notice that the only thing I personally am against, is the disinformation spread around here. People taking something George Broussard or Scott Miller said out of context to fit their delusional theories of possible things to happen in the happy DNF world.

This doesn't I'm not interested in DNF, or not excited when the day DNF is released actually comes. It's not a pissing contest of "who is the biggest DNF fan" that you make it out to be.

The key difference is that the patent judge was provably wrong. We are not stating a testable hypothesis. A closer analogy would be a group of people repeatedly saying the same things about the same episode of a TV program.

I can't visit the forum every day anew. I have a memory I can't simply erase and the contents of the forum aren't new. I can visit these forums with nostalgia (and I sometimes do) and there is a possibility that I might see a new idea in one of the "I would like this in the game/in the box/on the box/for the release" threads. None of which actually matters even if the game isn't completely dead, because none of us have any say in the development of the game, if it is being developed. It can be entertaining and it can be a chance for some people to create some good artwork, and that has value, but it's akin to fans rehashing the same episode of Star Trek too many times.

I'd like to be wrong. I've suggested ideas for games in development before and a couple of them have been put into a game. That's very cool. But in those cases I had reason to think that the games were being made and that they would be available, and they were. I don't have that for DNF and I feel silly trying to pretend I do. I'd like to play DNF. I'd like it even more if I heard Duke saying a one-liner I suggested. But to think that will be possible would require an act of faith on my part and I don't do faith.

But I'll probably post a bit in a couple of "what would you like" threads, maybe even have a new idea. I'll probably do the same again in another couple of years time, the next time DNF vaguely snags my attention again. It's a little like a very old pair of slippers. Shapeless and really quite crap as slippers, but you keep them for old times sake.

From all that I read this "Negativity" is nothing to be shocked about. You make people wait for a product longer than usual and you can bet your golden slipper's they'll get "Negative". It doesn't help when they go teasing around every bloody corner and then tell people to "Stop speculating".

Sorry, but people will stop speculating when you release the game. Simple as that, no if/ands/buts. Until then people will still be speculating, still be "negative" and will still be waiting.

Considering that George is playing poker frequently in Las Vegas, most recently in World Series of Poker Main Event, shouldn't there be any pictures or video of him? Isn't there usually live feeds from the tournaments?

A video would probably not reveal anything new about Duke Nukem Forever, but it would be nice to see George playing poker.
