Can a Max Payne 1 be re-made?

I was just wondering if it could be done would Take 2 only be allowed to do this since it was made by Remedy?

I have to say number 1 was fantastic! So much so I would love to buy it again on Xbox just to play on the 360 but if there is a chance it could be remade for the 360 I would be over the moon!!

Riddick is being re-made for 360 and PS3 and PC I believe so am curious if you guys or whoever can could give it some serious consideration.

It was afterall a top selling game was it not? It even recieved a BAFTA award!

The rights to Max Payne belong to Take2 now, and I think it's a dead franchise for them. And the whole situation sucks ass.

Well looking at number 2 that was a shambles, I say why ruin the recipe?

Max Payne 1 was soo damn good I say it deserves a make over!

Its graphically OLD I just want it with a facelift thats all and I will easily pay full price for it.

As the MP2 engine is now coming up on 4 years old, that would probably rule out updating MP1 with the MP2 engine.

Writing a new engine, making higher-res textures from the original art, making higher-poly models, etc, would probably cost nearly as much as writing a new game from scratch.

Making matters worse, a lot of ppl that paid for MP1 back in 2001 would probably expect all of this to be released as a free patch.

TBH, I doubt it was ever greenlit, or if it was, it clearly didn't get past pre-production. Max still has tons of potential and a large fanbase, so I'm sure they can sit on it for while.

But, at this stage I don't think a remake is necessary. Yeah maybe the graphics are technically out of date, but visuals still look pretty good -- largely thanks to it being one of the first games to make full use phototextures, and Hardware T&L.

Maybe once Max hits the 10 years, like Lara, it might be worth considering a remake -- with a full makeover, developer commentary, and lots of extras.

I think it still has the look and feel of a semi-recent game and besides, quality is much better than some shiny graphical effects.
Blood, now there's a game that could use a remake/sequel :P

Well the developers of Riddick are redoing the game visually and adding extra content so just thought it would be an idea to do another great game like MP1 into a remake.

Its probably never gonna happen but was just a thought, would have been nice though.

Riddick is a pointless remake. The game was a decent title, so I think they are just going by that theory, playing safe and releasing the same game again, with a few extras. I don't know why they do it (Fable Lost Chapters?) but its a cheap tactic and doesn't give us gamers any incentive to buy the game again. It would be so much better if they just used the same engine and developed a new storyline completely.

It was never officially announced as being developed, nor was it officially announced as being canned.

Just because a third-party site puts up 'Cancelled' doesn't mean it's official.

The extras were made for the PC port, but they decided to cash in on the XBOX with a rerelease.

Take2 will definitely make Max Payne 3, there's no way they're going to spend the money to buy the rights to the game from Remedy and then do nothing with it. That makes no sense at all.

You know, there was an hypothesis from someone else already planted, maybe they just bought the ip to disappear the max payne game... that's evil-ish... but who knows.. If Max Payne is to be re-made as eidos did with Tomb Raider I suggest 2k to wait for 7 more years or so for a mid 10's release.. I guess it will worth the wait...
