Yet Another eDuke issue...
What a surprise. eDuke, once agian, keeps giving me issues. This time it's the music. It keeps cutting out. Or rather, it'll last for several levels, then it will just stop. It says the music's on, yet IT DOESN'T PLAY AT ALL. It especially fails when I try to change the music in a user map. Why do I change the music in a user map? Because I don't like listening to DETHTOLL.MID all the time. This glitch aso applies when you die and have to restart. What is going on?! ANd it's not just the one I got. I've downloaded several different eDukes form different places, and they all give me the same problem.

And I absolutely REFUSE to play without music!

I also noticed this, I thought it was my PC playing up.

Music will randomly stop.

Well then. Looks like we all have this thing in common...
So now that we know it's not our computers...what do we do?

When the music stops, hum it to yourself to keep your spirits up.

What's with the stuck up, self-entitled attitude? I don't like it. You're more than welcome to play with some other port that hasn't been updated for years if you can't deal with a few bugs cropping up in a development snapshot. There is a fix for this problem in the next build, but the next time you decide to post about a bug you need to consider whether or not you're going to irritate the shit out of the couple of people who actually donate their spare time to work on this (e.g. Plagman and myself) by acting like a sarcastic ass.

Second that, TerminX.

Me and many gamers are bowing for your work with this port.
I would like to say : Thank you very much !

You're welcome! I'm happy to help bring Duke3D (and my idea of what I think it can do, via EDuke32) to all kinds of modern systems and new generations of players. EDuke32 will be 5 years old at the very end of August, but things are just warming up with stuff like Polymer on the way. This project has been a great way for me to both learn how to code worth a shit and get to experiment with massive changes to a large, established codebase with a big audience of end users.

I never really thought it would be as popular as it ended up being; the whole thing was started as a quick port of EDuke so that a few of us really oldschool modders could play our EDuke 2.0 stuff under NT instead of 9x/DOS. I guess I got pretty sideways with some of the changes and additions after that point.

I'm curious, TerminX, what were your coding skills like before you started eDuke32? I ask because I'm a pretty novice coder (as evidenced in a few threads) and am curious how much you need to know to start something as advanced as eDuke32 and what the initial changes you made were.

And I'll join the chorus of many many thanks to you for the eDuke32 port.

IIRC in the beginning TX had even less C/C++ experience than me (which is very little, just enough to have an understand of what's going on), but late nights spent awake at all hours has turned him into a coding god. With the help of Google.

Re: Yet Another eDuke issue...
*sigh*
Okay, look. I'm sorry. I've been having a lot of probkems lately, and eDuke just hasn't been helping. I mean, my great uncle committed suicide about a month ago, I misplaced a lot of important items that I really, really need...so life's not been so swell lately. And Duke Nukem is the only thing I look forward to doing each day. Sure, I have other games...but I haven't played DN3D for several years. And that was because I lost the disk in a move, and haven't seen it since. I recently re-ordered it, and have playing it a lot, plus I'm trying out all the mods I can find.

I'm one of those people who listen to game music more than rock, or rap, or whatever in devil these kids listen to these days. I recently conducted an experiment with Duke Xtreme's "Toy" level and the music changer. I first played it with INTENTS.MID, the errie music played during Lunar Apocalypse's second secret level, and the level was quite creepy. Then I played it again with NAMES.MID, Shrapnel City's Flood Zone. The creepy atmosphere disappeared.

So yeah, I really need the music to work if I am to personally enjoy the full experience. I've been running Window Media Player to play standard level themes simultaneously while running the mods that use them, but for the others with original music, I can't do that.

So I'll ask a tad nicer this time. Is there a way to fix this music glitch? To stop it from killing out?
ANd once again, I apologize. Especially to the people who worked hard on eDUke.

TerminX knows about this problem obviously so just wait for the next snapshot to be released. Then if you still have a problem with the music you can post about it.

You could try going into the options and then sound options and hitting the "Reset Sound System" option, it has worked for me when things messed up before, but i have never had this music bug.

Re: Yet Another eDuke issue...
I am certainly no coder, as I know next to nothing about software stuff. I know a lot more about hardware stuff. However, what I am is a serious Duke Nukem 3D fan. I wouldnt be playing it and DL'ing SP map-packs and playing them today, if not for TerminX and plagman and their Eduke 32. And the HRP team as well deserves a thanks, as that makes it nice to play with 3D models.

Without Eduke, it would not be fit to play. The distortion on modren systems without Eduke...not to mention the niceities like WASD mouse and everything else you get. I spread the word whenever I even detect another DN3D fan that might not know about Eduke and HRP, as I just did recently with a DN3D fan over on Steam.

If there was ever a game desreving of a large community to work with it and keep it alive, it is Duke 3D. So my thanks to TerminX and the whole team goes without saying...but I say it anyway. And so will a whole lot of future DN3D players who will get to enjoy this classic game, who otherwise would of never even known about it.

Thanks guys.
