I need help with duke2.exe
The title should have been "I need help with duke2edit.exe" I made a goof
I have extracted the czone files from the cmp file. But I don't know how to open the czone file to ether look at the level or edit the level.

Steve

I have since figured out how to open the map levels with duke2edit.exe. But I am hitting an other brick wall Look at the screen capture links below.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ojjxyg34y8...0level%201.jpg

https://www.dropbox.com/s/mea75jdoa0...pace%20bar.jpg

https://www.dropbox.com/s/h8837brzkq...blue%20box.jpg

I know I am in level 1 map. I can tell that much by looking at the picture. But for the life of me I can't figure the controls out for the editor. and I have no idea why the screen looks that way. Maby if the screen were clear I could figure out the controls.

OOO by the way my Os is Win7 home 32bit

Looks like you're missing OpenGL drivers for your graphics card. The editor uses OpenGL to draw the graphics. The only time I had garbage like this on the screen was when I tested another program on a machine with bad or missing OpenGL drivers.

You might also want to get a more recent version of the editor http://k1n9duk3.k1.ohost.de/files/duke2edit_09b.zip since there are some errors in the RLE compression routines in your version.

I haven't posted here in a while, but White Boxes and ATi graphics (such as in that model of laptop) seem familiar to me as ATi's OpenGL drivers are notorious (even within the Duke community) for being broken, I'll try the editor myself (I run an nVidia card) and also see if I can get an ATi using friend of mine to try the editor, see if he gets the same bugs, unless you already know it isn't that.

Re: I need help with duke2.exe
The last time I used the editor (some 2 years or more ago) was on my custom built tower system. That sys had a Gforce 3600 video card in it. A lot better card then the Ati in this laptop. The tower and a lot of other things got lost when I got behind on the storage unit rent. I am having to darn near start over from scratch. I did manage to save around 85% of my software library. The one thing that didn't get saved was all the old msdos games along with the lose leaf notebook with the cheats in it. It has been a long hall requiring new copy's.

1 thing I just notest was the fact that the Ati symbol is not in the task bar tray. I am going to check on and see if maby the latest video drivers aren't installed. Maby that's why the editor is acting funky.

BINGO That did the trick. The editor is working 100% graphics wise. After the last partition wipe and reinstall of win7 I forgot to install the Ati drivers. I have been running on the Windows generic Ati video driver all this time. Up until now I didn't see any difference in video quality other than a few nuisance file lock ups.

I know this is off this subject. But I am wondering if the lack of the correct video driver is the cause of the problem below?

I am running Windows 7 32bit (I am pretty sure it is the home addition) on a Gateway model MD2614U laptop. This is a random problem. Sometimes when I am working on something (it doesn't matter what it is that I am working on) I go to click on like a go button, a next button or try to open a dir or start a prog (it also affects the scroll bar). If it is down in the lower right side of the screen. Nothing happens. I can sit all day and try to click on it and nothing happens. sometimes if I close the prog that will fix it. Also if I move what I am trying to click on away from the lower right side of the screen with the mouse I can then click on it and make it work. I have tryed uninstalling the prog's (the main progs effected are Firefox and a Windows Explorer like prog) thay will work ok for a wile then start acting up agen. I also tryed a cold reboot (pulling the main battery and ac power). That sometimes helps and sometimes it don't. It is so very frustrating, like if I am in the middle of doing an online survey and it acts up. Anyone have any ideas? The big question is, is this a hardware or a software issue? If it is a software issue. All prog's on the laptop are backed up on a, known clean, external usb hard drive and/or dvd's. I learned that lesson the hard way a few yrs back. Also the task bar on the bottom and the clock seems to be unaffected.

Re: I need help with duke2edit.exe (nukem2.cmp)
I have dragged the nukem2.cmp file to the editor and got a stack of files. I know that the "L1 through L8.mni" files belong to episode 1 for editing. Beyond that I have no clue what the rest of the files do. Is there a list of what each file does? I just need to know which ones are the ones that I can edit and which ones to leave alone.

You can find a list of (nearly) all file types used by Duke Nukem II here: http://www.shikadi.net/moddingwiki/Duke_Nukem_II

Level files are:
* L1-L8 (Episode 1)
* M1-M8 (Episode 2)
* N1-N8 (Episode 3)
* O1-O8 (Episode 4)

Since almost all files have the extension .MNI it is hard to tell which file contains which kind of data. Most file types can be identified by the file size:

32048 bytes = 16 colour full-screen image
32000 bytes = level background image
42000 bytes = tileset ("CZone")

Hint: Open a level with Duke2Edit and edit the level properties. When you try to change the tileset or backdrop, the editor will list all files in the matching format (and display a preview of the graphics, too).

Re: I need help with duke2.exe
Before I started making any changes to the levels I made an unmodified version, copy of all the files in a different directory in case I screwed something up. In the file L5.mni I made a few changes in this level that I didn't do in the other levels. In the other levels I just add a few more weapon's and 6 packs of soda cans. Everything is fine except level 5. The level is still playable it is just when duke moves he becomes a square of graphic garbage until he stops moving, the same with all the other moving bad guys. The big pounding press's, the fan's, the elavator's and the moving walk ways are fine. Also when duke shoots at a target, the target becomes graphic garbage for a few seconds then clears up. I am not shure what I did. I am hoping someone has some ides short of replacing L5.mni with a copy of the backup.

Re: I need help with duke2.exe
Sounds like your actor sprites are messed up. Does this only occur when you play L5?

To check if the problem really is your level, copy your original Duke2 files (NUKEM2.EXE, NUKEM2.CMP, NUKEM2.F1-NUKEM2.F5 and FILE_ID.DIZ) in an empty folder and copy your version of L5.MNI (not the other files you extraced from NUKEM2.CMP) in there, too. If you still see those errors, then your L5.MNI really is the problem.

Please attach your L5.MNI to your next post so that I may have a look at it myself.

Re: I need help with duke2.exe
King Duke I have tryed to attach the L5.MNI file directly and via a zip file. I keep running into the same error message:

Upload Errors
L5.MNI:
Unable to move/copy file
