Re: Those of you that think Prey was too short...
I personally would, though I would hesitate at full price. As is, I bought Prey when it was reduced to £20.

Prey has to have been one of the most enjoyable FPS experiences I have ever had. However it was FAR too short. I felt skimped out of the 7 trials.

The whole time it felt like it was a kind of tech demo. PREY said: "This is what we can do." And when I completed it I was thinking "Wow, thats awesome, now DO it"

Well, its always easy to see the cup as half full and I echoed my dissatisfaction concerning the game's length in other posts.

On the flip side of the coin, the graphics were stellar, gameplay was simple and fun, and, something I've come to treasure the most lately: the game installed without a hitch, and didn't crash one time.

After spending months (and still!) trying to get another game stable *cough*Oblivion*cough* I realized what a breath of fresh air it is to actually get a stable game that still boasts excellent graphics.

So, while I will hesitate to purchase a full-priced ($60.00) sequel or other game from Human head /3D Realms, I still will take a hard look at it - Prey made that big an impression.

No, I'd wait until it dropped in price first before I'd even consider buying it. I certainly wouldn't buy it at full price if it were still only 6 hours long.

It took me 10 hours to finish the game on Normal difficulty. If you ask me, that's just right. You feel more motivated to play a game a second time when it's at a "just right" length, as opposed to a game that just rambles on.

Newb - A new player.
noob - An insult; usually someone who should know better

You have to think sparky...Do you mind if i call you sparky? Well when you think of it down to its core root of the word noob, you know that only people addicted to online games has to create different meanings for the same word do to people spelling it different or using it differnt. . Which i might say "ROFL" which measn "roll on floor laughing" but when i die it means "really owned from lag" see how confusing and stupid it is to give another meaning to the same word.

Nah I am NOT buying again if Prey 2's length is same as Prey 1. Prey 2 has to be atleast 3 times longer in times of gameplay so that I will spend my money once again after it.

Three times longer? What the hell do you want a thirty to forty hour game?

Yes PREY seems short, but in all honesty it isn't any shorter than most AAA games. It only seems shorter because you are not taken out of the game when you die. It's an instant transition.
PREY is a decent length, and at any rate around the right length for todays games. Gears of War, FEAR, Condemned.... all around eight to ten hours long. More if you push it, and PREY is in that same level.

Games around Doom 3 or HL2's length are few and fare between. Not many FPS average around 25 hours in length, and I'm glad. Because when most developers try and make a game longer they end up dragging it out, adding things in the middle that weren't needed.
PREY is a perfect length and also it's top quality all the way through.

Oh well, to each his own, but if PREY 2 is the same length as PREY... I'll buy it. I'll snatch it up in a heartbeat and love every minute of it.

I'd buy the sequel if there was more to do. Not just cool little gimmicks like jumping on walls and portals (they were fun but wore off) but like Nutwrench said, more interactivity and such all around. Maybe more unique weapons that don't seem like the usual alien shooter guns. The story was cool, although some things felt alittle forced.

I'd also like it if there were some city/suburban areas, or more indian tribal areas like the caves and desert. The arcade and bar just teased me because the rest of the game was really nothing like the first 5 minutes, but something tells me they are saving all of the "cool interactive features" and cities for another game .

I had no problems with its lenght. In fact, I rather play short than long games. But then again; I paid 20€ for the game.

The game took me 6 hours and 30 minutes. Review here: http://msdn.planetduke.gamespy.com/revprey.shtml

I made it through "The Museum of Natural History" in TEN MINUTES. I ran through the "Museum of Modern Art" in HALF that time (That museum is shorter). I was hoping that "The Getty Museum" would have had 'easy-to-find-exits'; yet still take more than three hours.

average roller-coaster ride : two minutes
average chess game : 32
average song length : three minutes
average music concert : three hours
average movie: one-1/2 ... average theatre: 2 hours 15 minutes

I only mention these bs statistics because: although everyone has their own tastes in cultural entertainment... most things considered 'entertaining' occur in under five hours.

I still have yet to "finish" the game, which means to me that this game is over a month long!

So far, i have not noticed a countdown timer or anything... I remember something written on the box like "over six hours of music"....

I have to admit that I tend to ... stroll... through the game, to check out what's going on in the world of the game; to admire the architecture of things. I got my money's worth, yes, in the first hour of fun.

having fun while doing something... really IS remarkable, and so it should be.

(my apologies if the spelling is off... but who has the time to 'spell' everything right) (It is only the English Language)

(sarcasm is a word too short for my tastes)

I would buy prey again, and I certainly plan to buy whatever sequel/expansion may come my way in the future (crosses fingers). Considering all the whining on the net about game length I was actually quite suprised at how long it lasted, but then, I don't rush through games like some people obviously do.

I'm planning on buying a new gaming-rig come summer, and when I do Prey is one of the games I plan on re-doing at max settings. I hope that by then 3drealms/human head have unlocked cherokee for everybody (completed save games are lost long ago) and removed the dvd-check, which really should be obsolete by then.

I haven't bought Prey yet because I've heard it's way too short, and too easy. Also, I played the demo and wasn't terribly impressed. To be fair though I only played up to the part where you learn the spirit walk from your dead grandfather or whatever. Maybe when the price comes way down I'll buy the game.

It's not as short as people say. It's just the right length, actually; any longer and it'd have gotten boring.

I wasn't impressed with the overall gameplay - combat was cool, puzzles were nice but I got stuck a lot and it got boring after a bit. I think an alien planet would have been better, that way there could be varying environments instead of the same alien/hi-tech theme the entire game.

To the person that posted that in HL2 had 'boring parts'. I never found while playing HL2 that there was boring parts. I found the parts where you weren't doing a whole added to the whole eery atmosphere that the game projected at points.

But back on topic. I'd buy Prey 2

Its not all about the length, it's about how well you use it!

Someone can make a World Cup Soccer game last 10 days, and it won't make the game any better. The whole thing is about what happens during that time. If nobody scored a point in the 10-day game, now that would suck!

I don't want a game that sucks. Tell me a good story instead. We should care less about the length of the game. That's not the important question.

I expect Prey 2 to continue telling good stories.

^So pray for Duke Nukem 5 so DNF happens.
Back to Topic, Prey probably was short. But I certainly enjoyed every moment as many people did. For example, I re-play Max Payne and Max Payne 2 most of the time. I re-play Duke Nukem 3D not always, but from time to time. Probably Duke 3D wasn't that short but MP and MP2 were certainly that short. If they were that long as Doom 3 or some other commonly known games I wouldn't replay them all the time, it would be boring.
So I bought Prey in July 06, but couldn't play it until one month ago because of video card.. I played and lasted one week but mainly because I didn't got the time.. Now I'm on holiday from this October 5 to Oct 12 and I'll be playing Prey once again, and Max Payne, MP2, Duke3D, Manhattan... probably play Doom3, but I'm more likely to play Prey because I like it, it was short and made me wish to play it once again...
My vacations are short, but I'll make them sustancious..

The interactivity in Prey was great in the first level but was not there for the rest of the game.

It would be great if they add a bunch of interactive things in the environment that aren't neccasary to interact with, but you can.
