His posts in random talk means, one listen to some rap or your probably not cluded up in slang. Or you cannot read what he said because in different countries one meaning could mean another, in UK where your from and me. You would say something like later, which could mean something else.

I think this more likely shows Georges age... in the US during the 80's using the term jamming in this context was common. In the 80's jamming would have been more likely to indicate doing very well. I believe I understood the meaning without any doubt or concerns of cryptic alternate meanings... and I would guess George, like myself, was born in the mid to late 60's... I am pretty sure I read something about his age in a given time period once that indicated this.

From 900 tasks to do in one single level

900 tasks on the weapons

900 tasks on some texture work

Or even 900 tasks on making their way to ordering a pizza

Highly unlikely. I'm a developer myself, and I work in a project management system every day. I use Trac which is a slight bit different from the Jira installation that 3D Realms uses, but it's basically the same idea.

If I were talking to my bosses about the completion state of my current project, I'd be telling them that I started with 800 or so tasks, and I have 70 or so left until the project is completed. A "task" in a project management system is probably going to be something more than "write a single line of code" - it's probably going to be something like "track down and fix this bug" or "re-do that crate model". It takes a few minutes to type out a developer-friendly description of an issue or a task.

Keep in mind that according to the screenshot of their Jira installation that we saw, there were at one time many "mega tasks", which could be anything from "finish the engine" to "model Duke". Judging by the type of tasks we saw to be completed in that screen shot (especially the "Menu megatask"), in my opinion the game is approaching release candidate or is at least in a very advanced beta stage in the current build. They probably wouldn't bother working on perfecting the in-game menus until it was nearly complete - developers don't mind working on a game with incomplete menus.

I still am pessimistic about his task meaning.

I don't want to rule out it being a basic countdown to a final build, but at the same time I'm not setting up for disappointment in this being absolutely nothing.

You are too smart for these forums my friend.

Could Duke Nukem Forever be 90% complete?
Regardless instead of creaming myself over information for once I am going to try and remain cautious. If it turns out to be true well that is fantastic but if it is false well then it's not a big loss.

What ever happens, happens. Although I do hope it is indeed correct.

Gold is a bit too much I think because usually games go Gold shortly before the release. I just want to see that this is it, you know, media and previews, so there's no debate that it's coming. These updates are cool... but nothing to be over-excited about, I agree.

I think the 800-900 tasks were assigned at the beginning of the year....

remember this quote on Jan 12th?

Quote:
Game developers often say "Cutting is shipping". We begin this year with a vengeance and a chainsaw.

So.... Jan 12th to 14th of April is approximately 66 working days.

Therefore they did

Scenario 1) They did 800-71=729 tasks in 66 working days.
With the assumption that the proportion of major and minor tasks is the same in both sets of Tasks (the completed and the unfinished) then they still need

x=66* 71/729 = 6,5 working days still left.

They will continue next task on monday so at 28th of April they will have finished all the tasks!!

Scenario 2)
They did 900-71=829 tasks in 66 working days.
With the assumption that the proportion of major and minor tasks is the same in both sets of Tasks (the completed and the unfinished) then they still need

x=66* 71/829 = 5,6 working days still left.

They will continue next task on monday so at 27th of April they will have finished all the tasks!!
