I like the Ripper machine gun, with the shrinker as a close second.

The shotgun is my main choice in pretty much all old FPS's (though these days they include submachine guns more and more which kick more ass than shotguns)

I want to go back to the days where shotguns weren't totally useless if you were more than a few metres away from your target

The shotgun utlimately becomes the mainstay weapon for all firefights. Ammo is common, all standard enemies go down within 1 to 5 shots, and the rate of fire (For a game shotgun) is pretty decent.

Always have been a fan of the shotgun, but I totally agree with Sang's point about the range. They seem to be far too realistic these days.

However there's nothing better than a shotgun blast to dispose of an enemy. If I can go off-topic a little and use CS as an example, wasting someone with a shotty is 10 times more satisfying than any other weapon, especially when it's a pansy sniper that bites the 'bullets'. So shotgun it is.

Chaingun and Shotgun - it's obvious You know why? Because in the basic version of DN3d I was always angry that all jibs disappears and nothing remains when you use anything else than bullet weapons. I like to have a big mess made by me on the whole level and that's why I like Chaingun and Shotgun (and that's why I created SD_Duke sooo messssy )

The chaingun and the shotgun are my favorites as well. I find the chaingun to generally be fairly ineffective, but I really like the styling and everything else about it. The shotgun is really an obvious choice, because it looks cool, sounds cool, and kills most things in a couple of shots.

Yeah, I like the Ripper for its style mostly too. Also, it can have a similar effect to the chaingun from Doom in that it makes some enemies do the Chaingun Cha-Cha, preventing them from returning fire.

Pistol, Shotgun and RPG.. those are really the ones i use the most. I think some of the weapons were kind of pointless (devestator is one of my least favorite weapons, and i dont really like the expander either , though they both look very cool )

I use shotgun the most. I also use it a lot on Duke Nukem Arena. When I lock on target, it's very easy to kill bot. Sometimes locking on taget + shotgun helps me to kill couple of bots even when I have very less health. Yes, shotgun is very good. But in DNA the best weapon is Freezethrower because we can fire lighting.

The ripper chain gun is my favorite, always has been, always will be. Not to mention it brings Protector Drones, Octabrains, and Sentry Drones down quite easily.

The freeze gun, and shrinker/expander are not far behind on my favorites list too.

Although whenever I play DN3D I use the shotgun 90% of the time, simply because it destroys most of the aliens in the game with only 1-2 shots.

The only aliens I never use the shotgun on are the Bosses, Battle Lord Sentries, and Assault Commanders.

So I guess my favorite to least favorite would go like this:
1) Ripper Chaingun
2) Shotgun
3) Shrinker/Expander
4) Freezethrower
5) Devastator
6) Pipe Bombs
7) RPG
8) LTBs
9) Pistol
10) Mighty Foot

True, but when it comes to the Battle Lord Sentries I tend to use a weapon that would take them down ASAP.

As for Assault Commanders, that all depends on the area they're in. If I'm in an area with lots of room to dodge or hide then I'll the use shotgun on them, but if I'm in close quarters with hardly any room to dodge the rockets, then I will simply bring out the shrinker and well the rest writes itself. Usually I do use the shrinker on the Assault Commanders because it takes care of them quite quickly.

Basically instead of writing that I never use the shotgun on the Sentries and Commanders I should have written that I only use the shotgun on Sentries/Commanders every now and then.

Nah, it claims too much ammo. Unless the map is full of shotgun ammo I wouldn't recommend it I think Chaingun/Devastator/RPG are better to use.

I don't dislike it.. I just don't use it much, because I consider it useless. I don't play DM, and luring enemies into a laser tripbomb is pretty much a waste if you can just as well use the 2 shotgun shells.

Though of course, in "emergencies" I use the laser tripmines.. But that doesn't happen often.
