I think the game will be released no matter who wins.

T2 would want to win for the money. They could always get someone else to finish up the game and put it on the shelves. Don't complain about the voice.... that's Jon's job, not someone from 3DR.

3DR would want to finish the game for money, and to hopefully reassemble themselves. It would also give George some more devotion and ambition to get back into his gaming career. He said himself on formspring that he was below entry level. On a scale from 1-10 he was a 1.7.

The question isn't will DNF be in a store one day.

The question is, will it be the version in all the leaked footage/media? Or will it be a version 3DRealms has made or a different company?

DNF as we have seen it in screenies and videos is totally and utterly dead. It will NEVER be released ever. Get over it.

Why?

Because if they settled tomorrow (which they wont) it still requires around 8-9 months of work and there is nobody to work on it. Even if they miracled up a team a release date would be at the absolute, absolute minimum 12 months away. Lets be fair it looks dated already. Another 12 months at least and who will give a shit?

At worst it goes to court in a year. It could then take at least another year to get a verdict. By then the game will be so old and dated it will be unreleaseable.

I am praying that they have done the right thing and are already working with another dev on a whole new Duke game or are making plans to sell the IP.

The box and extra stuff is always good, but the main problem I have is that it would cost a fortune in bandwidth charges to download something that big for very little in return, I get no physical content and the DRM would mean I would have to download it again when I needed new hard drives / bought a new computer - thus costing even more. And it isn't like I can switch ISP, my city has only one. I don't think you are bashing me, but I'm starting to take offence at peoples reaction to my thoughts on download-only, I already got crap about it from my friend because I refused to download Serious Sam HD, when you are all out of pocket because you did what the gaming industry wanted, don't expect any sympathy from me.

And I'm a collector (of oldskool games, but it would be nice to have a DNF box and everything one day) - so I certainly prefer to actually purchase the game on physical medium.

And I sure as hell am not resorting to piracy.

I feel that there will be more AAA quality Duke Nukem games developed but as far as Duke Nukem Forever is concerned it should be cancelled.

I feel the only way the franchise can push forward is to move on from where we are now and leave it behind. DNF can turn into an urban myth and we can wonder about what it could have been while playing a current kick as Duke game instead of having nothing at all.

I agree that there will be more, but I doubt they'll be the AAA titles that DNF aimed to be. I fear Duke has been relegated to the handheld world.

The Duke IP is a mature icon. That's like saying that an actor who has been in a couple of blockbuster hits will ever make another movie. The answer is yes to an eventual Duke release. It's obvious that a lot of revenue is expected from DNF otherwise nobody would care if the product was released...they could just fight away in court and release DNF as shareware or whatever. So it seems very likely that DNF will be released at some point of time after the court has decided on who owns what and who can do what with what they have.
