Old manuals
I finally finished scanning our old print manuals into pdf form. You can check 'em out here:
http://www.3drealms.com/tech/manuals I forgot to do Duke Nukem 3D, I'll have to get that online later.

Re: Old manuals
Sweet.
Where's the Duke3D one? (or was there even a printed manual, I can't remember...)

Re: Old manuals
Uh, did you miss me saying I forgot to do it?
I'm actually going to have to do that three times. The 1.3d manual, the PPack manual, and the Atomic Edition all have different manuals. The problem is finding a good version of the Atomic Edition manual we don't mind destroying, we don't have many copies of that left.

Re: Old manuals
It's cool seeing some of these again, my parents never beleived in keeping manuals, or any of the packaging either for that matter - so the manuals for all my apogee/3d realms games are long since lost (except my duke 3d 1.3 one and some of my games console games)

Re: Old manuals
Shadow Warrior has *NEVER* been sold without a manual. No idea where you would have gotten that.
We have sold a version fo this manual on the DUke3D CD for years, but the quality was crap, since the disc was last mastered years ago, it needed an upgrade. Regarding Boppin.. hahahahahahaha Re: ROTT CD. We haven't sold it as a CD in years. Download only.

(btw it wouldint stop you from playing) (sorry for being off topic)

Re: Old manuals
The Stargunner freeware release also included a scanned manual, but it missed some pages about warranty, technical assistance and online information. And now I can see what I've missed: not much, except for a screenshot of the Apogee website from 1996 and a live shot camera picture.
The early Apogee games used to come with a hint sheet. In the Kroz source code release, there's a hint sheet for Return to Kroz in Word Perfect 5 format. I can open it with Microsoft Office Word 2003, but the page layout is a bit off. I guess I have to search for my Word Perfect 5.1 disks to see what it really should look like. |

Re: Old manuals
Thanks for sharing, Joe. The ROTT download from your Yahoo store doesn't come with a manual (why?) so I'm glad to finally 'have' it.

Re: Old manuals
Is there any prohibition on external hosting of these PDFs? I'd love to host copies on Classic DOS Games, and to ensure that they always have a home on the web regardless of what the future holds, but I don't want to get into any copyright trouble.

Re: Old manuals
Are these being released under an open document licence. If so they could be added to Wiki. I guess George would have to ok that.

"Content that violates any copyright will be deleted. Encyclopedic content must be verifiable. Although I'm not even sure if you can attach a PDF to a wiki page... Thanks for putting them up anyway.

Re: Old manuals
What if I put a license.txt in the same directory stating something like we are releasing them for free, but the copyright is still to Apogee Software, Ltd?

Re: Old manuals
These appear on the CD's that you get with the games, the DN:MP one looks different from the one I have.
Yes it looks like they have been the original scan copy, great.

Actually I found a cd in a couple of old boxes in the storage room of a local game store here a couple of months ago. Some funny pictures by the way in the GOODIES/PICTURES directory, specifically OSCURO1.GIF deserves to be mentioned (though I do question the mental sanity of the person who used a digital camera for that type of thing back in 1994). |

These are awesome. I've been looking for a good scan of the Spear of Destiny manual for years among a couple others, so this is great! Thanks, Joe!
Can't wait to see the hint sheets, either. |

Re: Old manuals
I was surprised that the Goodbye Galaxy manual didn't go up (you can check out most of it here: http://cc314.classicgaming.gamespy.c...en4/index.html) I suppose this was only part of the retail package then?

Re: Old manuals
^ Probably, but wasn't that sold by GT (Good Times) Software? I'm pretty sure it wasn't Apogee. I don't think Apogee went retail until Blake Stone: Planet Strike, right? Or I might just be talking out of my ass.

Re: Old manuals
First retail Apogee game was Planet Strike. We never sold that Galaxy manual, although I find it amusing the PO Box on there is ours.
