Lo Wang... Any hope of seeing him again?
I was wondering... Is there any chance of seeing another game with Lo Wang in the future? IMHO he´s the best 3DR game character (yes, I like him more than Duke).

Any plans of 3DR?

What do you mean, "perhaps"?

But hey, looking at 3DR's "don't rip stuff from our games" policy I'd doubt it'd be any good. It'd be Shadow Warrior under a different name, with a different character, different voice, different enemies, different EVERYTHING so it wouldn't really be Shadow Warrior anymore, would it?

I'd settle for the original Shadow Warrior ported over to 360 and put up for sale on XBLA. But alas, I can't see that happening in the near... Ever.

Awesome pic by the way, SEB.

Hmm.. Don't know if I have heard that joke in the 9 years the game has been out or the 12 years since it started development. I wonder if the developers have thought of that.

Well then it's a good thing I said it. Since there's not going to be any future for the character, you might never hear this joke again either! Oh, the loss to humanity, how precious this moment is!

Re: Lo Wang... Any hope of seeing him again?
You'll never see him again because the thought police would have a hissy fit. Back when Shadow Warrior was released the political climate was a lot less PC than it is nowadays and 3DRealms still got hell for it. Brian Hook, formerly of id software and one of the members that developed the OpenGL standard, came out and said the game and the character were derogatory toward Asians (he's part Asian). Oh well, how much of a sense of humor can you expect from a programmer?

Considering how George Broussard really doesn't like it when Lo Wang is mentioned (consider when Joe was told NOT to include Lo Wang in the upper-left screen thing, or the one development screen of DNMP that included a Shadow Warrior poster that was later removed under orders by Broussard), I highly doubt that Lo Wang will ever make a public appearance again, other than a cameo.

Weird... Of course Duke has the advantage of being interesting to everyone who likes action flicks (Lo is more interesting for asian action flicks). But I do think Shadow Warrior was a much better game than DN3D, not only because of the slightly improved engine, but also because of its humor.

Rest in peace, Lo Wang.

WOULD it be illegal for someone to make a Shadow Warrior DNF mod? I wouldn't think there'd be much of an issue. If SW is an abandoned title that's never coming back, and the mod is made on another 3DR-owned game, there's no logical way anyone would be losing any money over it.

IMO, Duke3D killed Shadow Warrior. I mean, a Build game made by 3DRealms about a loud-mouthed guy who blows shit up? Where did I see THAT already?

Re: Lo Wang... Any hope of seeing him again?
I think SW being released so close to DN3D and using the same engine as DN3D when everyone else was using Quake and such with real 3D hurt it. Duke should have been the last Build game and by proxy the last FPS without polygons. SW used voxels and had some great improvements, I mean how many games are there where bunnies reproduce?? I can't think of any FPS where NPC's reproduced during the game except SW. The real level over level and the translucent water was great but it came too late, with the newer engines of the time you could do that already and with tricks in DN3D you could too.
But I don't think George could have a problem with it ONLY because it didn't sell. I mean I think there has to be something else, did he only have a problem with it after the release and failure?

Honestly I really never saw what was so wonderful about Quake. With all it's technological advances, the game just looked like crap, and I'm not just talking about the 256 shades of brown The coolest part of the whole game was the fact that nail boxes had the NIN logo on it, but beyond that, it bored me to tears. All the maps and textures looked identical, the sound was like badly-compressed streaming audio, and you had really lousy particle effects of little colored squares flying around (or circles if you were lucky enough to have antialiasing). And to top it off, my PC which could run duke steadily at 1024x768 (I couldn't run any other game at that quality for years to come), Quake had a disgustingly sloppy framerate at even 320x200. Not that there was really much more to see at the higher details...

Re: Lo Wang... Any hope of seeing him again?
Quake's focus was on multiplayer, that's why the single sucked - cause they overlooked it. The only thing that I really liked about Quake was the NIN soundtrack and the weapons, everything else was dull. In any case, both Duke 3D and SW are times better than Quake.

I liked all three games. SW unfortunately didn't work out. I'd rather look forward to the next Tommy and Duke games than fret over not having another SW. You can rest assured that the parts that made SW kick ass are incorporated into the overall learning curve hivemind that goes into making the next generations of Tommy and Duke that much better, right?
