Alright I've seen alot of games unpopular due to they suck but DNMP and no maps being released for it makes me think why nobody bothered with it?
I don't know how many 2.5D platformers with level editors exist, So far I know 2 DNMP and SRB2 but SRB2's 2D mode is more or less glitchy, SRB2 is more about 3D then 2.5D but alas it exists but even then there are barely maps with 2D mode for SRB2, So why DNMP has rarely any map at all? so far I saw 3 maps for DNMP and the third one was released recently it's called dark city. Is it because many gamers today prefer FPS? multiplayer FPS such as Halo? because most FPS games have more mp maps then sp being made, So is it also because DNMP has no mp deathmatch the reason nobody else bothered making maps for it? What if DNMP goes freeware/abandoneware would it increase the chance to be recognised and more people will make levels for it? (take a note if it will go freeware it will be advertised on freeware games sites) I kind of enjoy 2.5D games, They are very rare nowaday's and I don't know any ones with level editors besides DNMP and SRB2, Recently I played MMX8 and it was fun after all those FPS games I've played lately. I might consider re-installing DNMP and make some levels for it tough, I just have to get used with PrismED level editor and I'l get to go, Last time I used it it wasn't that hard I mean come on qeradiant is more hard to use imo. P.S:Forgot to mention, Anybody knows other 2.5D games with level editors? Last time I googled I got crappy unfinished 2.5D engines made with Game Maker with crappy physics.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
DNMP isn't 2.5D. Duke 3d is. Graphically.
DNMP graphics-wise is 3d, but gameplay-wise is 2D. And the game isn't bad. I'm actually really enjoyed it. Reviews weren't that bad either. With the right marketing and console release this thing might have been more popular. And if released today, it would make a great psn/xbla episodic title for sure. |

I'm actually asking why there are only 3 maps made for the game and nobody else made more maps for it?

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
That sounds incredibly frustrating. It almost sounds like they refuse to do it just to get on people's nerves.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
I've played it through countless times, and still play through it once a year. It's one of my top 10 fav games.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
DNMP is nice, but PC was a weird platform choice for a sidescroller. I think it could have sold much mor for any console.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
I have the full version, it came free with my old Foxconn K7NCR18D (Leadtek) motherboard some years ago, and that motherboard would not run the game, nor would my LanParty of any other NF2 based board, so i thought the game must suck at first, i only been able to play it for the last couple of years and it is a good game, but i find the Prism engine tools very difficult to use, and so i just leave the game as it is. I play DNMP quite a bit, but not as much as Duke 3D, but then, i rarely play any games on my PC.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
It was an okay game. Some of the one-liners were too repetitive and got boring quick. Though I really liked the Duke Trek quote. "These are the adventures of Duke Nukem..." lol Brilliant.
What killed it is that it got old and quick. For a side scroller it would have been important to emphasize replay value and to get inspired by the true kings of Side-scrollers. Megaman and the Castlevania series. (Mario isn't compatible) The game wasn't anything special.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
Well, Duke Nukem did start as a sidescroller anyway, Duke3D is a one out of the league game and the other Duke Nukem series on consoles since they are FPS's.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
It would be a great game to have on a cell phone as well. That would be fun to play while your sitting, waiting for your name to be called. Now after getting that lightn'in gun, I have fun just wasting everything. If you hold the trigger of that weapon as you enter a room, all get killed instantly with a Duke quote that you never heard before.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
I like it. Played through it several times, recently finished all the difficulties with all the nukes. It captures Duke character well.
Its biggest flaw is that weapons share ammo types, and so only about 3 of them (Assault Rifle, Pipebombs, Lightning Gun) are useful. |

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
Actually, I also loved the game. A friend let me borrow it and ever since I've been trying to hunt it down. I'll probably get it from amazon or ebay when I got money. As for the map creator...I never could get into those all that well. Even the simple ones it was kind of boring to me. I like to get out and play, but if I knew how to do it I probably would give it a shot.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
It might get more popularity now that it's being released on GoG.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
I think the tools were the issue, i found that Prism engine hard to use, i did like playing with the scripts in it though, for example, adding "give nuke 10" and stuff in it

I'm a major fan of DNMP as you know. Prismed is a pain, but useable after much tinkering. Just wish I had help at DNMP.

Re: DNMP why so unpopular?
I'll tell you exactly why DNMP was unpopular.
Duke. Nukem. Forever. After years of DNF hype, the new Duke Nukem game for PC was a game that not only was NOT DNF (which many gamers interpreted as a bait-and-switch technique, i.e. releasing DNMP instead of DNF), but was even LESS INTERACTIVE THAN DUKE3D!!! It was a good game for its own merits (and I personally enjoyed it because I did NOT compare it with DNF), but it was LESS good than the hyped product (DNF) appeared to be, and this was enough to make it extremely unpopular.
