If a babe is covered in slime my assumption is that she's been infested like in the Alien movies, and there's nothing Duke can do about it. He has guns, he doesn't have an alien de-infestation kit. But I've never played DN64.

Well hold on a sec. There's no actual evidence that the aliens in DN3d are parasitic. The protozoid slimers don't count because unlike the facehuggers from Aliens, they devour their victims. Other than that, I'm not quite sure what the aliens need with the babes. I doubt it's a sexual thing since it seems unlikely that they would be genetically compatible with the aliens. It's quite strange really.

That's true about the green slimes, but I think that's because it was much easier to program and made more sense for the game. It's obvious that the Alien movies were an inspiration. You can see it in the eggs, the slimes, the slimed babes, and of course the alien drone, which looks very similar to the aliens from the movies.

I think of the aliens in Duke Nukem as a collection of different species who have been assimilated, like the Zerg from Starcraft. After all, pigcops and lizardmen are clearly not the same species. Therefore, there's no need for a unifying explanation of their life cycle, which would have to be very contrived. The slimed babes could very well be part of the alien drone lifecycle, even if it has nothing to do with the rest of the alien species we see.

Well, like a lot of babes are near the Proto Slimers. Don't you think they're easy food for newly hatched slimers?

Yes, you're probably right.. That's why Duke should be able to save them.

Alright, now he is. My first mod EVER. (very small and simple, but cool idea I think )
I don't want to post it as a file becouse in this case there will be constant need to update it. I'll just say how to do it yourself:

1. Backup your eduke.con
2. Open eduke.con in text editor (notepad for example)
3. Press Ctrl+F to find the string "killme" (you will find "state killme" line)
4. Replace the text below the line up to string "ends" with"
ifinwater nullop
else
ifp pfacing
ifpdistl 1280
ifhitspace
{
definequote 125 BABE SAVED! +20
addphealth 20
quote 125
spawn TRANSPORTERSTAR
sound TELEPORTER
killit
}
ends

This will teleport the babes trapped in slime tentacles to a save place on space hit. In addition, the player will gain 20 health points for each saved babe.

why not have the "definequote 125 BABE SAVED! +20" outside of the state for use by other code? (in case there is an actor that will use it at anytime) or is the quote planned to be reset after execution?


btw: nice better than my first mod

To be honest I dont know if the quote will be use in other code or not. I just know that this script works for me the way I wanted.

This mod should be considered a beta. It works but it needs a tweak - does anybody know how to scale up the teleporter effect (made it larger)? So it will look like teleporting trooper? And how to unbound the effect from ceiling/floor and make it more.. centered?

That reminds me; I should contribute to the EDuke32 wiki some more. However, all the information you need is there already.

To think it morally killing the babes putting them out their misery seems fine
but at the end of the level Duke Always punches the self destruct button so
the babes will eventually get killed.

But to think it this way when you kill a babe an Octobrain usually spawns and
gives you lot of trouble waste of ammo and waste of health so its better to leave the babes alone

I always use pipebomb or RPG for quick death, killikng them is saving them i think (seeing how messed up they are) - if im low on ammo i use the mighty foot.

oh ya, i improoved your code a little (i was bored ), to make it more evil...

I'm usually too traumatized to kill them, also knowing other enemies come out if I do. All naked and being hugged by tentacles is down right creepy.

This is the reason I always loved Duke 64 and Duke ZH a little more than Vanilla Duke 3D. This particular aspect of the plot was a little more clear.

Don't mean to revive the thread but I generally kill them if I'm doing a sweep or completely ignore them if I'm doing one of my challenges. For sweeps I'm pretty sure you need the alien spawn they give you for a perfect kill count on the after level stat menu. ^_^
When I don't care about the stats I've played through the game without killing a single one unless it was necessary. Like in Bank Roll. ( I think that's what the level's called)
Being able to save them would probably be the best though. Otherwise Duke isn't really "the man that saves our chicks" lol
