This is the first front row ever for Toyota and the veteran one lap specialist takes the pole. Now they just need to win, the pressure from Tokyo must be incredible.

Vettel is keeping up his form and Button is up there too. Hamilton is making the most out of the new developments for his MP4-24 and Barrichello had understeer out of the last corner. Alonso didn't showboat with a super-low fuel load, hopefully he can fully utilise his KERS off the line, Hamilton must be thinking this too.

Massa needs to score points tomorrow, he starts in P8 which is the last point scoring position and he cannot afford to lose places in the race. Rosberg must be disappointed, he's surrounded by KERS cars and must be feeling down for the start tomorrow. Kimi didn't have a good lap, almost 0.6 seconds slower than Massa.

Kovalainen couldn't manage better than P11, Nakajima wasn't spectacular, while the BMWs are falling backwards. They are not being developed as fast as the McLarens and the Renaults and they really need to step up because last year by this race, they were leading the championship and Kubica were on pole. Piquet tried hard but ran off the track in the last corner and ruined his lap. He is the driver most likely to lose his drive in F1 and really needs to perform.

Sutil blocked Webber, there is no doubt. He will get a penalty for tomorrow's race. Buemi was mediocre, Fisichella couldn't capitalise on generally faster cars being in the crapper. Webber was shafted by Sutil and Bourdais cannot tolerate the handling characteristics of his Toro Rosso.

The grid for the race:
P1 Trulli - Toyota
P2 Glock - Toyota
P3 Vettel - Red Bull
P4 Button - Brawn
P5 Hamilton - McLaren
P6 Barrichello - Brawn
P7 Alonso - Renault
P8 Massa - Ferrari
P9 Rosberg - Williams
P10 Räikkönen - Ferrari
P11 Kovalainen - McLaren
P12 Nakajima - Williams
P13 Kubica - BMW
P14 Heidfeld - BMW
P15 Piquet - Renault
P16 Sutil - Force India * will drop 3 places for blocking Webber
P17 Buemi - Toro Rosso
P18 Fisichella - Force India
P19 Webber - Red Bull
P20 Bourdais - Toro Rosso

I don't know what happened with Kovalainen, he said that he couldn't go faster, dunno why was that exactly. If Hamilton had new parts, and he didn't, that might explain the situation.

As for Räikkönen, the team decided to use all new soft tyres in Q2. Q3 he had now new soft tyres left. So that alone made him really slow. Considering he was 4th in Q2 one can only wonder why Ferrari did this. Hampered the Q3 effort a lot.

Red Bull looks strong again, I pick Vettel for the win, Toyotas will be on podium. Solid effort from Toyota.

If Trulli can drive qualifying laps all race, he will win, though I suspect we will see a little bit of that Trulli-syndrome in the race where he can't cope with the changing characteristics of his car as the tyres wear and the track changes.

Glock, I don't know what he can do but he's lighter than Trulli so he'll have to do spectacularly well to win I think. Maybe he'll crash or something.

Vettel has a good shot because he is very consistent and has a good chunk of fuel.

I hope Alonso can KERS past the Brawns and fight with Hamilton for a podium.

I feel sorry for Webber, he's so unlucky. He needs to win a race pretty soon.
